Golden Eagles sweep again, top APSU 3-0 in first place showdown

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Got one, but here comes another one.

Leah Meffert and Amanda Lindgren each collected 14 kills to pace the Golden Eagle attack, which was directed effectively by Kappy Lang. The senior setter had 44 assists in the three-set match as Tech remained tied for the league lead by improving to 11-2 in conference play.

Lang posted a double-double in the victory, adding 15 digs to her assist total. Alson on the back row, junior Katie Kenline had 33 digs.

The first set went down to the wire, and was tied 23-23 before the Golden Eagles scored the final two points to gain a 25-23 win. Asplund and Meffert notched the first of those decisive points with a block, then Meffert's kills sealed the victory.

In the second set, with the scored tied 16-16, Tech surged to a three-point lead including kills from Meffert and Teresa Craig. APSU came back to make it 22-21, beofre Lindgren killed back-to-back sets from Lang to make it 24-21, and Laura Pierce came on to serve an ace for set point.

Tied at 15-15, Tech took control and outscored the Lady Govs 10-3 the rest of the way to post a 25-18 victory and clinch the match, avenging a homecourt loss to Austin Peay early in the year. Tech has now won 12 consecutive sets, including 3-0 wins over Murray State, Tennessee State and Austin Peay.

The Golden Eagles host Morehead State Friday night at 7 p.m., hoping to avenge a loss to the Eagles in Morehead which was Tech's only other league loss this season.
