Tech freshman Krystal Stirrup named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Two weeks in to her college career, Golden
Eagle freshman Krystal Stirrup looks pretty comfortable playing
basketball at the Division I level. Comfortable enough to be voted
Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for her efforts against
Lipscomb (Nov. 18) and Belmont (Nov. 22).
Stirrup, a 5-11 forward from San Antonio, Texas, posted her first
career double-double in Tech's 72-55 win against Lipscomb, with 12
points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. She followed up that
performance with nine points, four rebounds and three steals at
Belmont.
"It is an honor for Krystal to be recognized for this award," head
coach Amy Brown said. "For her to be able to come in and provide us
with these types of numbers right away is great, and she is only
going to get better throughout her career."
Stirrup is averaging 12 points, and 6.3 rebounds per game, and has
seven steals on the season in over 25 minutes per game, and is
shooting 50 percent from the field.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Tuesday night at the
Hooper Eblen Center when the Drake Bulldogs come to town, before
traveling to the Florida Atlantic Thanksgiving Tournament where
they will take on Florida Atlantic on Nov. 29 and either Ga. Tech
or Texas on Nov. 30.
