Bradford heads the field, Tech tied for first at Murray State tournament

MURRAY, Ky. -- Junior Megan Bradford holds a one shot lead on the individual leaderboard and Tennessee Tech is tied with host Murray State for first place after Monday's first round of the New Wave Communications Classic.

Fighting through cold conditions, Bradford posted a five-over par 77 to set the pace for the field of 48 golfers. As a team, Tech shot a 328 and is tied with the Lady Racers, one shot better than Austin Peay in the nine-team field.

Following Tech, Murray State and Austin Peay, Lipscomb is fourth (338), 10 shots back. SIU-Edwardsville (341) is fifth, with Murray State Gold (345) sixth, IPFW (354) seventh, University of the Cumberlands (372) eighth and Missouri Baptist (405) ninth.

The teams are scheduled to play the final 18 holes Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at the Miller Memorial Golf Course.

Bradford is one of three Golden Eagles in the Top 10 after Monday's play. Junior Diana Carson is seventh at 81, and senior Madison Denman is tied for 10th with an 84. Sophomore Carley Rhyne shot an 86 and is tied for 17th place, while senior Maegan Sullivan is tied for 32nd place with a 91.

Among individuals in the tournament, sophomore Lindsay Spradlen also shot a 91 and is tied for 32nd.
