Bradford, Golden Eagles finish second at Murray State tournament
MURRAY, Ky. -- Tennessee Tech junior Megan Bradford finished in
second place individually, helping lead the Golden Eagles to a
second place team finish Tuesday at the New Wave Communications
Classic. Host Murray State took advantage of familiar surroundings
on its home course to break a first round tie with Tech and claim
the title at the par 72, 6,017-yard Miller Memorial Golf
Course.
Bradford, who held a one shot lead after Monday's first round 77,
followed with an 81 in the cold and windy conditions Tuesday,
finishing second by just four shots to earn all-tournament honors.
Murray State's Joyce Trus captured medalist honors with a
78-76--154.
It was the fourth time Murray State has captured its own tournament
in the seven-year history of the event, and the third time that
Tech has finished as runnerup.
MSU followed its 328 on Monday with a 319 team total Tuesday to win
with a 647. Tech shot 328 Monday and 334 Tuesday for a 662 and
second place, five shots ahead of Austin Peay at 329-338--667.
Lipscomb (670) placed fourth, followed by SIU-Edwardsville (680),
Murray State-Gold (696), IPFW (712), University of the Cumberlands
(734) and Missouri Baptist (799).
For Tech, sophomore Carley Rhyne also posted a Top 10 finish,
carding rounds of 86 and 79 for a tie for sixth place at 165.
Madison Denman was in 17th place (84-85-169), followed by Diana
Carson tied for 18th (81-89--170) and Maegan Sullivan (91-89--180)
in a tie for 32nd place.
Sophomore Lindsay Spradlen tied for 23rd place to finish as the top
individual entrant with rounds of 91 and 83 for a 174.
Coach Brandy Stout's team gets next weekend off before returning to
action March 16-17 at the Samford Intercollegiate.
