Golden Eagle football schedule features five home games in '09

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A Thursday night opener in Tucker Stadium, non-conference contests at powerhouse programs Kansas State University and the University of Georgia, and five home games highlight the 2009 Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle football schedule.

The 11-game schedule was announced this week by Golden Eagle coach Watson Brown and Director of Athletics Mark Wilson.

“Coach Brown and the Golden Eagles face a very challenging schedule in 2009,” said Wilson. “It’s an exciting schedule for our fans and our players, and promises to provide lots of great moments, highlights and memories.”

The Golden Eagles will host four Ohio Valley Conference games in addition to the opening game, and face six games on the road. In addition to the visits to KSU and UGA, the Golden Eagles play at four conference schools that have combined to win the last five league titles.

Tech opens the season with a Thursday night visit from Pikeville College on Sept. 10. The following week, Tech opens OVC play with a game at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The first of Tech’s two games against Football Bowl Subdivision foes comes on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a game at Kansas State out of the Big 12 Conference.

The Golden Eagles return to Cookeville to host Austin Peay on Saturday, Oct. 3, then face back-to-back OVC road games at UT Martin (Oct. 10) and Eastern Illinois (Oct. 17).

The next two games are at home to close out October as Tech hosts Southeast Missouri on Oct. 24 and Tennessee State on Oct. 31.

Once again, the Golden Eagles hit the road for a pair of games to start November. First, the Golden Eagles play at Southeastern Conference foe Georgia on Nov. 7, the second FBS opponent of the year, then wrap up the road schedule at Jacksonville State on Nov. 14.

The final regular season game is back in Tucker Stadium when the Golden Eagles welcome Murray State on Saturday, Nov. 21.

“This is a really good, extremely challenging schedule, and we’re anxious to see what we can do,” Brown said. “We will be extremely young once again in 2009, and this schedule presents some real tests for our players and our staff, but we’re really looking forward to it.

“We play two ‘prestige’ games at Kansas State and Georgia, and the OVC will be extremely competitive,” Brown said. “We are really looking forward to the challenge we face each week of this schedule.”

Season tickets for the 2009 Golden Eagle football season are on sale at the Athletics Ticket Office in Eblen Center or by calling (931) 372-3940. Tickets to the Kansas State and Georgia games can also be purchased through the TTU ticket office.
