Purple and gold travel east for Covered Bridge Open on Friday
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech cross country teams continue their respective 2023 campaigns in Boone, N.C., heading east for the Covered Bridge Open on Friday at Don Kennedy Trails at State Farm.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech cross country teams continue their respective 2023 campaigns in Boone, N.C., heading east for the Covered Bridge Open on Friday at Don Kennedy Trails at State Farm.
The women's 5K will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT with the men's 8K to follow at approximately 9:40 a.m. The field of competition will include host App State, as well as Brevard, Florida State, King College, Lees-McRae, Montreat, Mars Hill, Radford, Tennessee Tech, Tusculum, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Wake Forest, and Winthrop.
The Golden Eagles opened the season with a strong start at the Tennessee Invitational back on Sept. 1. The Tech women's squad placed third overall in the 3-mile run, paced by senior Helen Pacucrariu-Nagy and her time of 18:01.6.
Makaleigh Jessee, Hayley Stegall, and Riley Knoyle all made their TTU debuts, finishing second, fourth, and sixth on the team, respectively. Junior Chloe Wade was second among the Golden Eagle runners while sophomore Ava Costello, rounding out the scoring group fifth on the team.
On the men's side, Tech also secured a third-place showing while competing in the 4-mile run. Junior Miceal McCaul led the way for the purple and gold, earning a top-25 finish with a time of 20:57.6.
Senior Dominic Smith followed close behind his teammate with a time of 21:08.9 to also secure a top-25 showing. Rounding out the scoring for the Golden Eagles were newcomer James Hyland, a McNeese transfer, veteran Chase Faudi, and sophomore Isaac Legault.

Following this weekend's race, the Golden Eagles will compete next in Louisville, Ky. at the Live in Lou Classic on Saturday, Sept. 30.
