NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tech cross country will head back to Nashville this weekend as they compete in the Commodore Classic at Percy Warner Park on Saturday, Sept. 14. The men's 8K race will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed shortly after at 9:15 a.m. for the women's 6K competition.
The Golden Eagles will look to have a strong showing against stiff competition on Saturday with multiple Power Five programs competing in the race.
The men's field will consist of Auburn, Belmont, Georgia, High Point, No. 15 Indiana, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Louisville, Missouri, Middle Tennessee, Ohio State, No. 14 Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Tennessee Tech, Western Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Xavier.
While the women's field includes Auburn, Belmont, Georgia, High Point, Indiana, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Louisville, Mississippi State, Missouri, Middle Tennessee, No. 26 Ohio State, No. 15 Ole Miss, Santa Clara, Southern Miss, Tennessee Tech, UAB, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
Running for Anna Cooper
The Golden Eagles will premiere a new addition to their uniforms during Saturday's competition, a purple ribbon, to celebrate the memory of former Golden Eagle Anna Cooper, who passed away from a rare form of cancer in June. The ribbons will be displayed on the right side of Tech's uniforms. Following the Commodore Classic, Tech will continue to wear the ribbons during their competitions for the remainder of the 2019 season. The purple color is used to represent rare forms of cancer.
A Look Back
Both the men and the women claimed sixth-place finishes during the season-opening Belmont Opener.
Ababu Mohamed and Nancy Jesang led the Golden Eagles during the meet. Mohamed finished with a time of 15:35.26, while Nancy finished in 19:20.51.
The Golden Eagles will return to action Oct. 5 at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
