Golden Eagles fall at Belmont

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Tech volleyball team battled with Belmont Tuesday evening, but was unable to claim its first win of the season as the Bruins took the 3-0 decision.
In the opening set, TTU dropped the 25-15 decision as both junior Kelsey Gray and sophomore Natalie Penrod tallied three kills apiece.
The second set was a close affair early on with Belmont owning a 10-7 lead. The Bruins, however put together a 15-10 run to close out the set at 25-17. Freshman Sarah Teel paced the Tech offense with four kills, while sophomore Allison May added seven digs.
In the third set, the Bruins opened up a quick 11-3 lead and never looked back as they took the set 25-12, and the match.
Teel led the Golden Eagle offense with seven kills, while May tallied 18 digs.
The Golden Eagles wrap up their non-conference play this weekend as they take on a trio of opponents at the UT Chattanooga Invitational. TTU will square off with UNC Asheville Friday, at 2 p.m., and a pair of opponents on Saturday, including Chattanooga at 9 a.m., and East Tennessee State at 3 p.m.
