COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Yet another record-breaking performance by a member of the Tennessee Tech women's golf team culminated in its own magical moment, as Golden Eagle Megan Williamson became the third consecutive member of the Tech squad named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Female Golfer of the Week Wednesday afternoon.
Returning to her hometown for the Blue Raider Invitational, Williamson turned in her best outing in purple and gold, carding a school-record 218 behind brilliant rounds of 76, 70 and 72. She became the third Tech golfer to break the program mark for 54-hole scoring this season alone, beating out Whitney Robertson's 222 and Maddi Everts' 219, both of which were at one point this year the lowest score in TTU history.
She led the Golden Eagles to a fourth place finish in Murfreesboro, helping the team shatter the previous school-record for 54 holes by seven strokes. Tech wrapped up play with a 906 at the event, beating out the mark of 913 set three weeks prior at the CSU Wendy's Invitational.
In addition to garnering her first career OVC honor, Williamson also took home her first All-Tournament bid after placing third in Tech's fall season finale.
Williamson's league honor made the 2014-15 squad the first in program history to have players named OVC Golfer of the Week in three consecutive weeks. Tech also became the first OVC program to claim three straight league accolades since 2003-04, when Jacksonville State took home the first three honors of the spring season.
The Golden Eagles will now see a nearly fourth-month break before returning to the links to open spring play. Through five events, the Tech squad is on pace to shatter the all-time team stroke average mark, lowering its average to 308.14 after the Blue Raider Invitational. The current record, held by the 2000-01 squad, is 315.25.
