News mentions
COLUMBIA, S.C. – With Tennessee Tech’s 12th appearance in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament in the rearview, the Golden Eagles close the books on what has been an incredible season. After all, that’s the facet to look at following Friday’s first round game against the top-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks. With a 108-48 loss to the defending national champions, yes, there’s disappointment. When wouldn’t there be as a season comes to a close, especially with an incredible group of people who have gone through so much and lifted each other up to new heights? As Tech head coach Kim Rosamond noted in the post-game press conference, it took the defending national champions to end the Golden Eagles’ impressive 17-game winning streak.
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The business trip has begun for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team. Now nestled in their housing in Columbia, Thursday will be a busy day as the Golden Eagles begin preparation for their biggest task yet – trying to take down defending national champion South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. The game is set for a 3 p.m. Central/4 p.m. Eastern start time on Friday. The game will be carried locally on 106.1 The Eagle with Dylan Vazzano and Frank Harrell on the call, while Courtney Lyle and Carolyn Peck will handle broadcast duties on ESPN (also streaming on ESPN+ with cable subscription).
EVANSVILLE, Tenn. – When Keeley Carter stepped onto the Tennessee Tech campus for the first time as a member of the Golden Eagle women’s basketball team, she didn’t know what to expect, but she knew one thing: “It was going to be special,” she said. She fought back tears during the post-game press conference after being named the Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championships Most Valuable Player, helping lead Tech to a thrilling 82-76 overtime victory.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – It’s hard to beat a team three times in the same season, much less twice on their home turf. Southern Indiana might have had the fans at their back, but the top-seeded Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team has been there in hostile environments. Instead, the Golden Eagles stood tall, showing grit and determination. The Tech women – now on their 16th straight victory – are in it to win it and they aren’t stopping now. The Golden Eagles topped Southern Indiana 88-78 on Friday afternoon in the Ford Center in the OVC Basketball Championship semifinals and now advance to their 25th OVC championship game. Tech will play Lindenwood for the title at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Ford Center. The game will be live on 106.1 The Eagle with Dylan Vazzano and Frank Harrell on the call, while Dorian Craft and Lexi Ayala will handle broadcasting duties on ESPN+ (subscription required).
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With the regular-season championship in tow, the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team also collected several All-Ohio Valley Conference honors on Tuesday as the league announced its postseason honors on the eve of its tournament, which starts Wednesday in Evansville. Junior guard Reghan Grimes was named to the All-OVC first-team roster, while Peyton Carter and Keeley Carter were both named to the second-team. Keeley Carter and true freshman Chloe Larry were both selected to the All-Newcomer Team. The five total selections are the most for the Golden Eagles since the 1991-92 season and tied for the third-most in program history.
As the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team prepares for its final home game of the season with an outright OVC regular-season championship on the line, Senior Day offers a moment to honor a group of players who have left an undeniable mark on the program. This class contains conference champions, record breakers, new faces and old, and they have propelled the Golden Eagles to one of the most historic seasons in program history.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team is already assured of a share of the Ohio Valley Conference’s regular-season championship. The thing is… they really don’t want to share. Still remembering a tough night in St. Charles back in December, the Golden Eagles look to close out the regular season with a victory on Saturday as Lindenwood comes into the Eblen Center.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The championship has been won, but the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team is not done yet. The Golden Eagles defeated Western Illinois 68-51 on Thursday night to claim a share of their 19th Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship in program history and first since 2012-13. Tech (23-5, 17-2 OVC) claimed its program-record 17th conference victory of the season and extended its winning streak to 14 games and 17 at home.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Thursday’s game against Western Illinois just became a lot bigger for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team. With Lindenwood’s 75-70 loss in Macomb on Tuesday night, the Golden Eagles now have the opportunity to claim at least a share of the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title with a victory over Western Illinois on Thursday. If Tech takes care of business Thursday and Saturday, the Golden Eagles can claim the OVC regular-season title outright when Lindenwood comes to down for the regular-season finale on Saturday. However, it’s still one game at a time for the Tech women and what matters is the task at hand Thursday night as the Leathernecks come to the Eblen Center.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The streak continues -- Tennessee Tech powered their way to an 84-71 victory over Tennessee State on Saturday with an army of alumni in attendance, watching the Golden Eagle women dominate the contest in the Eblen Center. With the victory, the Golden Eagles (22-5, 16-2 Ohio Valley Conference) extend their winning streak to 13 straight games – standing alone as the fourth-longest winning streak in program history. The win also marks the 16th straight home win for the Tech women as they inch closer to the program-record of 23 straight in the Eblen Center.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A strong second-half helped the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team pull away from UT Martin on Thursday night as the Golden Eagles took a 70-55 victory in the Eblen Center. With the victory, the Golden Eagles (21-5, 15-2 Ohio Valley Conference) win their 12th straight game – the longest winning streak for the program since 2000-01 and tied for the fourth-longest streak in program history – as well as their 15th straight home contest.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s a big weekend contest for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team as the Golden Eagles aren’t just trying to keep pace at the top of the Ohio Valley Conference standings, but Tech will also welcome back some of the biggest stars of its illustrious past as it is Legends Weekend at the Hooper Eblen Center. The festivities will be part of Tech’s game against Tennessee State on Saturday, slated for 3:30 p.m. or roughly 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men’s contest against the Tigers on ESPNU.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s down to the last two weeks of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season and Tennessee Tech will look to defend the home court in its final four games of the campaign. There’s a lot on the line as UT Martin comes to town Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – With the Ohio Valley Conference schedule winding down to the final five games of the regular season, the Tennessee Tech women are standing atop the league standings, locked in a tie with Lindenwood. As the Golden Eagles get set for their final road contest Saturday afternoon against Southeast Missouri, there’s still a lot on the line as the Golden Eagles bring a 10-game winning streak into the Show Me Center.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Reghan Grimes stood behind the arc. She was cool, collected. Just 45 seconds earlier, Little Rock had retaken the lead in a game that was tilting back and forth. The home Trojans then had just missed a jump shot in the paint that could have extended their lead, but Chloe Larry came up with the rebound. As the seconds ticked away down to 27, Grimes took the pass. She set up and it seemed like she had all the time in the world. As she fired, the ball’s arc went perfectly into the net. Tennessee Tech was back on top by two points.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – As the Ohio Valley Conference season starts to wind down toward the postseason tournament, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball is keeping its nose to the grindstone as the Golden Eagles look to claim the conference’s regular-season title. It will not be an easy task as Tech heads into Jack Stephens Arena Thursday to take on Little Rock.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois’ Macy McGlone has been one of the top players in the Ohio Valley Conference this season and she was a tough matchup in Tennessee Tech’s first meeting with the Panthers back in January. On Saturday, Anna Walker did her hardest to stand toe-to-toe, outscoring the EIU post 21 to 17 and blocking two more shots as the Golden Eagle graduate helped lead Tech to a thrilling 65-54 victory over the visiting Panthers in the Hooper Eblen Center.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After a 93-minute delay for tornado warnings in the Putnam County area, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team surged to take an 80-54 victory over SIUE on Thursday night. Tech led 18-15 at the 8:48 mark of the second quarter when the warnings were issued, sending the fans and teams into shelter in the Hooper Eblen Center and the adjacent Academic Wellness Center. As the teams came back out to the court, the Golden Eagles outscored SIUE 21-10 before the intermission.
COOKEVILLE – It’s a huge contest at the Hooper Eblen Center on Saturday as the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team hosts Eastern Illinois with first place in the Ohio Valley Conference on the line. Both the Panthers and the Golden Eagles are among the three-way tie for the top spot – in addition to Lindenwood – with the season rushing toward its postseason showdown in Evansville. There’s still a few weeks to go, but any momentum will be huge down the stretch. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. Saturday with Roger Ealey and Frank Harrell on the call on 106.1 The Eagle and Dylan Vazzano and Steve Smith narrating the action on ESPN+ (subscription required).
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s been a couple of weeks since the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team has entertained the home crowd at the Hooper Eblen Center and it’s been an exciting span with the Golden Eagles winning four on the road to extend their winning streak to seven games. Now back home, Tech hosts SIUE on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. as the Golden Eagles try to extend their home winning streak to 13 games over the last 368 days with the last loss at the Eblen Center coming back on Feb. 3, 2024. Roger Ealey and Frank Harrell will have the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Steve Smith will narrate the action on ESPN+ (subscription required).
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Tennessee Tech took the first meeting against the defending Ohio Valley Conference champs, now the stage is set for the rematch Saturday as the Golden Eagles head to Evansville to take on Southern Indiana. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. Roger Ealey will have the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required).
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State made it interesting as the hosts cut away from a 14-point Tennessee Tech lead in the third quarter and got the game back within five points with 1:41 left to play in the game, but the Golden Eagles held on to prevail 82-73 on Thursday night at Johnson Arena. With the victory, Tech improves to 15-5 on the season and 9-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Morehead State falls to 7-15, 2-10 in the league. With Eastern Illinois' loss to Western Illinois on Thursday, the Golden Eagles now stand one game back from the Panthers for the league lead.
MOREHEAD, Ky. – As Tennessee Tech begins its second and final lap through the Ohio Valley Conference before the conference tournament in March, the Golden Eagles find themselves two games back from first-place Eastern Illinois for the league title. Tech (14-5 overall, 8-2 OVC) is currently tied with Lindenwood (12-7, 8-2 OVC) for second place, while defending conference champ Southern Indiana – Saturday’s opponent in Evansville – stands half-a-game back from the Golden Eagles with an 8-3 mark in league play following Tuesday night’s 20-point win over Morehead State.
MARTIN, Tenn. – A big second quarter for the Tennessee Tech women helped overcome a slow first quarter as the Golden Eagles left the Elam Center Saturday with a big 70-59 victory over the host UT Martin Skyhawks. Tech improves to 14-5 overall and 8-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference, winning the first two games of their four-game road trip. The Golden Eagles face Morehead State and Southern Indiana next week before returning to the Eblen Center.
MARTIN, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team took three on the chin against UT Martin last season with the Skyhawks winning 67-58 in Cookeville, 67-37 at Martin and 79-71 in the Ohio Valley Conference quarterfinals in Evansville. It’s a different season and a different team, so the Golden Eagles are looking to break last year’s futility streak as Tech heads to the Elam Center to take on the Skyhawks on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. Dylan Vazzano will call the action on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required).
NASHVILLE – Tennessee State made it a fight on Thursday night, but once the Tennessee Tech women gained the upper hand in the Gentry Center, the Golden Eagles held on as tightly as they could with the lead to take the 71-64 victory. The Golden Eagles (13-5, 7-2 Ohio Valley Conference) got double-digit production from four players, led by Peyton Carter, who collected 18 points on 5-for-9 shooting – all five buckets 3-pointers – and 3-for-4 at the free-throw line. Carter also had six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team will finish out its first go-through of Ohio Valley Conference opponents this week as the Golden Eagles travel to Tennessee State on Thursday and UT Martin on Saturday. Tipoff against the Tigers on Thursday is 5 p.m. with Dylan Vazzano providing the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required).
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Before Saturday, Tennessee Tech had only beaten Little Rock once in five meetings. It was when it mattered though – a victory in the 2023 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship game. On Saturday, the regular-season streak against the Trojans was dashed as the Golden Eagle women didn’t just beat Little Rock, the Tech women dominated, putting together a 21-point victory over the visitors and giving Tech an 8-0 record at home this season with a 70-49 victory.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It was a milestone evening for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team on Thursday night as the Golden Eagles claimed the program’s 500th Ohio Valley Conference victory, topping Southeast Missouri 79-66 in the Hooper Eblen Center. It’s a milestone, especially in the era of conference realignment, that hasn’t been reached by many teams and Tech is the first in the OVC to reach that level. The total only includes the regular-season OVC matchups as the postseason tournaments count only in overall record and not in conference records. The Golden Eagles (11-5 overall, 5-2 OVC) were on fire early on, scoring 28 points on a scorching 12-for-18 (66.7 percent) from the field. The total was the most for Tech in a first quarter this season and the second-most in any quarter, trailing only the 29-point outburst in the third quarter against Western Illinois.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team has done a great job defending its home court this season, posting a 7-0 record in the Hooper Eblen Center. However, Saturday will bring a test to that run as the Golden Eagles host Little Rock. Tipoff for the game is 1 p.m. Roger Ealey and Frank Harrell will broadcast the game on 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Steve Smith will narrate the action on ESPN+ (subscription required).
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team is back in action on Thursday evening as the Golden Eagles return home to take on Southeast Missouri at the Hooper Eblen Center. Tipoff for the game is set for 5:30 p.m. The game is also Academic Excellence Night with $5 admission for all K-8th graders with free face painting and balloon art by Mission Balloon sponsored by Pepsi as well as a poster creation station.
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A slow start didn’t hamper the Tennessee Tech women’s team on Saturday. Once the shots started to fall, the floodgates opened and the Golden Eagles were able to put together an 11-0 run in the second quarter and never looked back as Tech took a 74-58 victory over SIUE on Saturday. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 10-5 on the season, 4-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The win also gives Tech its 499th all-time victory in OVC play, meaning the Golden Eagles can become the first OVC team to win 500 conference games as early as Thursday when Tech returns home for a contest against Southeast Missouri.
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Thursday night was not indicative of the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team and they are determined to put that game in the rear view and keep progressing toward the Ohio Valley Conference title. It’s still a long time until the OVC tournament and still a lot that could happen between now and March, but the focus is squarely on Saturday’s opponent – SIUE. The action is still on schedule for Saturday at 1 p.m. Roger Ealey will have the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required).
CHARLESTON, Ill. – After a pair of big road wins last week, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team is hitting the road again with a huge contest up next. The Golden Eagles, currently tied for second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 3-1 mark in league play and 9-4 overall, will head into Charleston to take on the lone unbeaten team in the OVC on their home court as they take on Eastern Illinois on Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Roger Ealey will have the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required).
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Keeley Carter has been on a tear in the last month for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team and she was recognized for her efforts on Tuesday as she earned her second Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honor of the season. Carter, a Lafayette native and Trevecca transfer, led the Golden Eagles in scoring in a 2-0 week against defending league champion Southern Indiana on Thursday and Morehead State on Saturday, collecting 38 total points with a 19.0-point average. She set her own career best with six made 3-pointers on six tries against the Screaming Eagles.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech caught fire at just the right time on Saturday as the Golden Eagles made second-half adjustments to pull away from Morehead State, taking a 76-63 victory in the Eblen Center. Tech improves to 9-4 overall, 3-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while Morehead State falls to 6-8, 1-3 in the league.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – And the first round goes to the Golden Eagles.
