Bio
A middle distance specialist from a state that churns out exceptional runners, Andrea is a middle distance specialist from Oregon who enjoyed a highly successful prep career at Culver High School...will train with the cross country team over longer distances in the fall, then compete in the middle distances at 800m and 1,500m during the track & field sason.
Coach Angel on Retano: Andrea is a gutsy athlete with untapped potential. She brings a strong work ethic and is a highly competitive runner. She will be an impact runner who will make a difference in both cross country and track.
SOPHOMORE (IN 2017): Andrea set a personal-best mark in the indoor 600-meter at the IU Relays with a time of 1:46.08...also established a career-best mark in the indoor 400-meter at the Samford Open with a time of 1:04.96...recorded a personal-best time in the outdoor 800-meter at the Weems Baskin Invitational with a time of 2:27.28.
FRESHMAN (IN 2016): Andrea was a part of the 4x800m indoor relay team that broke the former Golden Eagle school record with a time of 9:25.95 (along with Sarah Brandt, Madison Stremler, and Molly Griffin).
HIGH SCHOOL: A versatile athlete, Andrea competed on the volleyball and basketball teams, in addition to running with the track & field team...helped with the 2012 state title in volleyball...Andrea was the 2014 Oregon High School Class 2A state champion at 800 meters...the following year she was the 2015 bronze medalist in the same event with a time of 2:18.42...member of the Honor Society.
PERSONAL: The daughter of Jesus Retano and Irma Rodriguez...born November 25, 1996 in Santa Ana, Calif...studying environmental science.
