Bio
2024 (Junior): Played and started in 42 of the team's 47 games ... recorded a .296 batting average with 13 doubles and four home runs among her 40 hits ... drove in 36 runs -- the second-most on the team -- while coming home to score 12 times ... drew 14 walks ... was 2-for-3 on stolen bases ... posted a .973 fielding percentage ... had four hits against Western Illinois (3/16/24), including three doubles and seven total bases ... collected four RBI at Eastern Illinois (4/21/24) and SIUE (4/27/24).
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: Kirby, who was born in Cookeville, played two seasons at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, and put together tremendous numbers as the first baseman batted a combined .406 with 72 RBI, 48 runs scored, 12 home runs, a .496 on-base percentage and a .761 slugging percentage. This past season, Kirby ranked in the top 50 nationally in doubles (21, 36th), on-base percentage (.558, 19th), walks (31, 33rd) and was 52nd in batting average (.462). With a .993 fielding percentage at first base, she was selected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as a Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner for the NJCAA Division I level and a West All-Region first-team pick. She was also a second-team all-conference selection by the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. In 2022, she helped led MCC to a NTJCAC championship, a Region V North championship and a NJCAA Division I runner-up finish. MCC was also selected as the 2022 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year. In both of her seasons at MCC, she was an Academic All-Conference selection and a NJCAA first-team Academic All-American. In her sophomore campaign in 2023, she was named to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District. In high school at Cypress Woods High in Cypress, Texas, Kirby posted a career .399 batting average with 112 hits, 25 doubles, six triples, 10 stolen bases and 91 RBI. She had 43 RBI during her sophomore campaign.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After striking out 14 on Saturday, Lainey Fitzgerald had another awesome performance on Sunday as she showcased the offensive side of her game, coming through with a clutch home run to even the game against Iona. The Tennessee Tech softball team finished out the game with a 3-2 victory over the Gaels to wrap up its action in the UNCG Invitational. All three of Tech’s runs came in the fifth inning as the Golden Eagles (6-6) rallied from a 2-0 deficit with Sofia Carroll providing the game-winning hit with a double to left center to drive in pinch-runner Bailee Stack.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – True freshman pitcher Lainey Fitzgerald struck out 14 batters as the Tennessee Tech softball team gave George Washington its second loss of the season with a 4-1 victory in the Golden Eagles’ first action at the UNCG Invitational on Saturday. It is the most strikeouts in a single game for the Golden Eagles since Danielle Liberatore struck out the same number on April 1, 2017, against Austin Peay. Liberatore also holds the single-game record with 17 two years earlier against Morehead State. Fitzgerald improved to 2-0 on the season as she allowed just one run in the complete-game effort, yielding four hits and three walks. Of her 129 pitches in the game, 77 were for strikes.
COLUMBUS, Ga. – It was a tough day on the diamond for the Tennessee Tech softball team as the Golden Eagles took a tough-luck 2-1 loss to Army, then fell 12-1 in a five-inning run-ruled game to undefeated Syracuse. The Golden Eagles (4-5) close out their play at the Army Columbus Classic on Sunday as they take on Long Island, starting at 11:30 a.m. Central.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Evansville tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, but the Tennessee Tech softball team was able to take advantage of four Purple Ace errors – including three in the top of the eighth – to claim a 7-4 victory to wrap up play at the Furman Paladin Invitational on Sunday. The Golden Eagles head back to Cookeville with a 3-2 record before hitting the road again next weekend for the Army tournament in Columbus, Ga.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – With the 2025 softball season a week away, the Ohio Valley Conference released its preseason projected order of finish and the Tennessee Tech softball team took a No. 5-projection, putting the Golden Eagles in the top half of the league in the poll. The OVC also announced its Players to Watch with infielder Sydney Kirby – a Cookeville turned Cypress, Texas, product – named as the Golden Eagles’ preseason standout.
