COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Following its third-place showing at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships over the weekend, the team's third top-five finish of the season and second in as many events, the Tennessee Tech men's cross country team entered the top-15 rankings in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) South Region Monday.
Coming in at No. 15 overall, it marked the first time the Golden Eagles were ranked in the South Region of the USTFCCCA since the 2018 campaign. That season, Tech earned a program-record ranking of sixth and finished the season seventh overall in the South Region.
"The men are running well when it matters," Tech head coach Peter Dalton expressed. "The men's patient, diligent, and determined approach to the entire season is beginning to shine at the right time."
Tech's entrance into the South Region's top-15 rankings comes on the heels of the team's best performance in the OVC Championships since 2018. The third-place finish tied for the second-best in program history.
Ole Miss moved to the top of the South Region rankings over the weekend, leapfrogging Florida State (second) and Alabama (third). Rounding out the top-five are North Florida and Middle Tennessee. Belmont, which finished second in the OVC Championships, owns an eighth-place ranking, while other in-state programs in Tennessee (sixth), Lipscomb (seventh), and ETSU (12th), also make up the rankings.
The Golden Eagles will set their sites on the NCAA South Regional Championships, competing in Hunstville, Ala. on Friday, Nov. 12.
