Golden Eagles tied for fourth after one round in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Darkness brought a premature end to the first day of action at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor Saturday, as the Tennessee Tech men's golf team had two holes to go to close off its second round of the day.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Darkness brought a premature end to the first day of action at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor Saturday, as the Tennessee Tech men's golf team had two holes to go to close off its second round of the day.

Following the first go around The Club at Savannah Harbor, the Golden Eagles found themselves in a three-way tie for fourth place among the 16 teams in contention. Tech matched the 290 also produced by both Western Carolina and VCU to open play. UNCG led the pack with a 282.

Junior Bryce Beeler jumped to the top of the leaderboard for the purple and gold following the first 18 holes, tying for sixth among 87 golfers with a 2-under 70. Two shots back was Bracton Womack, working a tie for 16th. The senior posted an even-par 72.

A pair of Golden Eagles tied for 34th to rank next among the team's participants, including sophomore Nick Sutton and senior Will Brooks. The Cookeville native Brooks turned in a 2-over 74 with a pair of birdies. Sutton locked in his 74 behind 14 pars and a birdie.

Rounding out the Tech group was junior Chance Taylor, who carded one of just four eagles in the first round. He completed the first day tied for 57th with a 76.

The second round of The Invitational at Savannah Harbor will resume Sunday morning with the third round set to follow immediately after.
