MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Tuesday marked the third and final round of the GolfWeek Program Championship for the Tennessee Tech men's golf team, which jumped up a spot to finish its first event of the 2018-19 season in 12th place among 14 teams.
A strong finish to the week from Will Brooks highlighted the three-day event at True Blue Plantation. The sophomore helped the Golden Eagles round out play with a final score of 881 (296-291-294) and just one place back of Valparaiso for 11th.
Brooks kicked off the year on a high note, notching a top-10 finish thanks to his second consecutive 3-under 69. He finished at 211 overall (73-69-69), while playing a nearly flawless round. The Cookeville native posted five birdies and an eagle, but was balanced out slightly by a quadruple bogey.
Following Brooks in the final rankings for Tech was senior Matthew Giles, whose 223 (75-72-76) tied him for 54th among the 75 participants. Bracton Womack carded a third-round 73 behind three birdies, finishing with a 226 (75-78-73) overall.
Junior Dabney Dickenson bounced back after a second-round 83, tallying a 76 on Tuesday to finish at 232 (73-83-76) in his first action of the year. Fellow junior Cameron Yeary rounded out the Golden Eagles in attendance at Myrtle Beach, turning in a 77.
Campbell claimed the event title with a decisive 816 final score. The Camels' Jesper Svensson earned the individual title while shooting 200 for the event.
The Golden Eagles will get the next week off from competition, taking the opportunity to get in some practice on the links before returning to the road. Tech will next play at the Derek Dolenc Invitational from Sept. 24-25 at Gateway National Golf Club.
