Golden Eagle men's team opens fall season at Wasioto Winds
The Tennessee Tech men's golf team will get the fall portion of its 2011-12 schedule underway Monday and Tuesday when it travels to Pine Mountain State Park in Kentucky for the 54-hole Wasioto Winds Fall Kick-Off Invitational.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech men's golf team will get
the fall portion of its 2011-12 schedule underway Monday and
Tuesday when it travels to Pine Mountain State Park in Kentucky.
Tech is one of 13 teams in the field as Morehead State hosts the
54-hole Wasioto Winds Fall Kick-Off Invitational. Included in the
field are five Ohio Valley Conference schools.
The tournament will be played at the Wasioto Winds Golf Course at
Pine Mountain State Park, located near Pineville, Ky., in the very
southeast corner of the Commonwealth. The teams are scheduled to
play 36 holes Monday and 18 on Tuesday, with a shotgun start at 9
a.m. Eastern time each day. The course is par 72 and plays at 7,037
yards.
Joining Tech and host Morehead State are OVC rivals Murray State,
UT Martin and Eastern Illinois. Also competing will be Bellarmine,
John A. Logan College, Northern Kentucky, Southern Illinois,
Walters State, Trevecca Nazarene, University of the Cumberlands
(Ky.) and University of Pikeville (Ky.).
For the Golden Eagles, the tournament marks the men's coaching
debut of first-year coach Polk Brown. Named just last month, Brown
has directed the Tech women's team in one tournament this fall, but
this event will mark his first outing with the men's team.
The Tech roster includes six experienced returnees plus two
freshmen newcomers. Back for the 2011-12 season are seniors Tyler
Cassetty and Travis Ramsey,
junior Lee
Maxwell, and sophomores Mason Griffin, Greg Kitts and
Sam Schrock.
The new kids on the tee for Tech incude freshmen Taylor Diegel and
Max
Verble.
Following qualifying amongst the team members, Brown has announced
that Kitts will play in the No. 1 position for Tech, with Casetty
at No. 2. The balance of the five-man lineup will include Griffin,
Maxwell and Diegel.
Either Ramsey or Verble will fill a spot among the individuals
also competing.
