Swansey earns the vote for OVC Newcomer of the Week
Junior Zac Swansey has been voted Newcomer of the Week by the Ohio Valley Conference for his performances in last week's conference match-ups.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Junior Zac Swansey has been voted Newcomer of the Week by the Ohio Valley Conference for his performances in last week's conference match-ups against Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri.
Against EIU on Thursday, Swansey hit his third game-winning shot of the year (a 3-pointer with 7.8 seconds left) to lift the Golden Eagles to a 77-74 road victory; it was his second game-winner against EIU this season. The transfer from Georgia hit 6-of-9 3-pointers in that game on his way to a career-high 22 points; he also dished out five assists and had three rebounds.
Two days later he scored 19 points, pulled down seven rebounds, dished out five assists and netted two steals in a victory over Southeast Missouri to move the Golden Eagles into a three-way tie for third place in the OVC.
For the week Swansey averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.5 steals/game while hitting 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the field and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from 3-point range.
The Golden Eagles will return to their home
court for a three-game stint in the Hoop starting Thursday, Feb. 3
as they face off against the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky. Tip off
for the game, which is the second of the evening's double-header
event, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
