Tech travels to Lipscomb to meet Bison for first time in 34 years
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- After running their winning streak in home
openers to 32 consecutive years, the Tennessee Tech men's
basketball team will now attempt to do something it hasn't achieved
in 34 years - beat Lipscomb University.
Of course, they haven't had the opportunity in all that time,
either. Tech defeated the Bisons, 104-68, back in 1974, the last
time these in-state foes squared off.
Tech and Lipscomb meet tonight in Nashville at 8:15 p.m., the
second game of a doubleheader following a women's game between the
two schools at 6 p.m.
It's Tech's first road test of the season, after opening with a
74-48 win Saturday night over Bryan College. Lipscomb is also
unbeaten in it's only game this year, claiming a 121-54 victory
over Oakland City College on Saturday.
Tech owns a commanding 36-3 advantage in the all-time series, with
all 39 contests coming between 1940 and 1974. The two teams will
play a second game this year, in Cookeville, on Monday, Dec. 1.
Senior Daniel Northern leads Tech in scoring, rebounds and blocked
shots following the opener. He had 18 points and nine rebounds, and
his three blocks raised his career total to 112, putting him within
three of Milos Babic in second place on the all-time list of
leaders in school history.
Junior point guard Will Barnes had 15 points and eight rebounds
against Bryan, while junior newcomer Elijah Muhammad led Tech with
five assists. Tech has two other players averaging in double
figures, with both sophomore Alex Davis and freshman Kevin Murphy
netting 10 points.
Lipscomb, meanwhile, had seven players reach double digits against
Oakland City, topped by Brian Wright with 21. Josh Slater and Rob
Murphy each scored 15, Micahel Teller had 14 and Michael Lusk added
13. Both Brandon Brown and THomas Pfaff scored 12 as the Bison shot
61 percent.
The game can be heard on the Golden Eagle Sports Network and via
