Tennessee Tech University Athletics restructures sports programs
Tennessee Tech has announced a strategic restructuring of its intercollegiate sports programs. The move is an effort to maximize financial resources and ensure sustained athletics competitiveness in the OVC. Two athletic teams – rifle and women’s tennis – will be suspended effective July 1.

Golden Eagles finish sixth in OVC rifle championships
After the two-day Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championship event, the Tennessee Tech rifle team finished in sixth place. The Golden Eagles had a team score of 2204 in the smallbore on Saturday, and followed that up with a 2242 in the air rifle on Sunday for combined score of 4446.

After breaking his career-high twice already this year in the air rifle competition, Austin Litherland of the Tennessee Tech rifle team was named the Ohio Valley Conference Air Rifle Athlete of the Month.

Austin Litherland shot a team-high 576 in the air rifle competition but the Tennessee Tech rifle team fell to Columbus State by a combined score of 4544-4485.

The Tennessee Tech rifle team had its best competition of the season when it shot against Morehead State on Sunday, posting a team score of 4,511 against the Eagles, who scored 4,515.

Austin Litherland topped his career high for the second time in two weeks, and Chase Cortner also shot a career high, but the Tennessee Tech rifle team fell to Jacksonville State by a total score of 4542-4452.

Austin Litherland shot 569 in the Small Bore competition and Chase Cortner shot the same score in the Air Rifle competition, but the Tennessee Tech rifle team fell by a total score of 4,559-4,489 against Columbus State at the US Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Ga.
