News mentions
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It was a different kind of banquet on Tuesday night for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team as the Golden Eagles announced their annual team awards. The usual dinner with a legion of loyal followers was pared down to a much more intimate yet casual event with the team and staff, a smaller setup as the team continues to follow COVID protocols. The evening ended with five players coming away with the team’s four awards.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – As tough as it was for the Tennessee Tech women to leave the court after Friday’s 69-56 loss to UT Martin in the Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championships in the semifinal round, there was little reason to hang their heads. The loss stung, sure, especially after a thrilling victory over Jacksonville State the day before, and as the Golden Eagles made a push to unseat the top-seeded Skyhawks, looking forward to the future was probably the last thing anyone on the Tech bench hoped to do. But make no mistake, while it was UT Martin celebrating its victory on Friday and advancing to the title game on Saturday, there is a lot for the Tennessee Tech squad to look forward to.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Last season’s Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championships haunted the Tennessee Tech women. Trying to overcome a grief-filled moment and coming up short with Southeast Missouri hitting a buzzer-beater in overtime held heavy in their hearts and minds. Hardly a week later, everything changed with the COVID-19 pandemic. So with a full year of all of this weighing on the Golden Eagles, Thursday, they had enough. Tech opened up the quarterfinal contest in the 2021 OVC Basketball Championships like a team possessed and hardly looked back as the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles took a 79-64 victory over No. 4-seed Jacksonville State, heralding its exit from the OVC in women’s basketball.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Survive and advance. That’s the simple mantra for any basketball team when you get into tournament time. The regular season is done, now a loss means your season could very well be done. That’s the situation that lies ahead for the Tennessee Tech women on Thursday as the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles take on No. 4-seed Jacksonville State in the quarterfinal round of the Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championships. Tipoff is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Evansville’s Ford Center. Dylan Vazzano and Thomas Corhern will handle broadcast duties on 106.1 The Eagle, while Bob Belvin and Helen Williams will take on the broadcast for ESPN+ (subscription required).
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A back-and-forth battle to the end, the Tennessee Tech women fell on the short end of Saturday’s 68-67 loss to Murray State. Macey Turley scored 11 points in the final 10 minutes as she was 4-for-5 from the field and 3-for-4 from long range Katelyn Young tied the game with 45 seconds remaining as she grabbed her own rebound and got the second-chance bucket. Jordan Brock missed a jumper on the other end of the court, then Kesha Brady was called for a foul, sending Manna Mensah to the line with three seconds remaining.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The defense came through for the Tennessee Tech women on Thursday night as the Golden Eagles bounced back from two straight losses to take down Austin Peay 62-57 in the Eblen Center. The win also gives Tech 12 conference wins, tying the 2018-19 Golden Eagles for the most OVC wins in the Kim Rosamond era. “We really needed this one tonight,” Rosamond said. “Our kids needed to get back on the right track. We had been playing really, really well, but then we had two really tough games against Belmont. Our word for tonight was ‘resilient.’ I thought our kids were really resilient tonight against a really tough, physical, scrappy Austin Peay team. It was a great comeback win.”
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team looks forward to both the regular-season finale on Saturday against Murray State, as well as next week’s Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Championships in Evansville, Ind., it’s also an opportunity for the Golden Eagles to look back and reflect on the senior members of the 2020-21 team and those wrapping up their Tech careers. Abby Buckner, Taylor Lamb and manager Blake Ledbetter will be honored following Saturday’s season finale against the Racers. The two players saw their Tech careers come to an end from injuries last year and were unable to compete this season. More on their role with the team this season and the adaptations they have made in their transition can be found here. Even though there’s a lot to celebrate on Saturday, there’s still a lot to be decided on the court. Tipoff against the Racers is scheduled for 5 p.m. Roger Ealey will provide the radio call for 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will handle broadcast duties on ESPN+ (subscription required).
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With two games remaining in Tennessee Tech’s regular season, a trip to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament in Evansville, Ind., is locked up. The question now is where the Golden Eagle women will finish in the standings. Tech entertains Austin Peay on Thursday night at 5 p.m. in the Hooper Eblen Center. Roger Ealey will provide the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will broadcast the game on ESPN+ (subscription required).
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – For the first and third quarters, Tennessee Tech and Belmont were evenly matched point for point. It was the second and fourth quarters, however, that made things a bit tricky on Tuesday night. The Golden Eagles were held to single digits in the even quarters and Belmont took advantage, taking a 77-56 victory in the Eblen Center.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – If there’s one positive in playing the same opponent in consecutive games, you already know who you’re facing. You know what worked and what didn’t. It doesn’t make anything easier, but you know what to expect. That’s the case Tuesday night as the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team faces Belmont at the Hooper Eblen Center to open the final week of the regular season. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Roger Ealey will handle the radio duties on 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will tackle the broadcast on ESPN+ (subscription required).
When Kim Rosamond was named head coach at Tennessee Tech on March 31, 2016, she understood one of the keys to restoring the program’s winning ways would be her staff’s ability to attract the state’s top players back to Cookeville. Rosamond had spent more than a decade coaching and recruiting up and down I-40, and she knew the state of Tennessee had long been a hotbed for high school girls basketball. She also understood the importance of making a statement early on the recruiting trail. Abby Buckner and Taylor Lamb would be cornerstones to the new staff’s first two signing classes at Tennessee Tech, and those first signing classes would quickly put the Golden Eagles on the winning path. Both came from successful high school programs in Tennessee, and both were what Rosamond believed were the kind of “winners” the program needed.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Since Belmont joined the Ohio Valley Conference, there aren’t many teams who have been able to beat them, posting a 120-27 record in league play, posting an incredible .816 winning percentage. In the last five years alone, the Bruins have lost only seven OVC contests – including four on the road with three losses at UT Martin. Before this season, Belmont had only lost once at the Curb Event Center during the span – a 77-72 loss to Tennessee Tech on January 5, 2019. And that was it – until this season. After Belmont had its program shut down from the COVID pandemic, the Bruins went from December 20 to January 19 without playing. That first game back ended up a 72-66 loss to Murray State at the Curb Event Center. Southeast Missouri also found paydirt in Nashville on Feb. 9, topping the Bruins 70-66.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – When the Tennessee Tech women are hot from 3-point range, the Golden Eagles are pretty tough to beat. For the fourth-straight game, Tech knocked down double-digit treys – 13 in Thursday’s contest, one shy of the season-high of 14 – as the Golden Eagles cruised to a 68-52 victory over Tennessee State. Jordan Brock was on fire, hitting five of her seven 3-point tries. The senior ended the night 7-of-10 from the field and 2-for-2 at the free-throw line to pace all scorers with 21 points. Megan Clark knocked down three 3-pointers out of four tries, while Maaliya Owens drained two, including one at the halftime buzzer. Clark was Tech’s other double-digit scorer in the contest, posting 12 points on the night.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women are playing well, winning eight of their last 10 games and making a push for one of the top seeds in the Ohio Valley Conference basketball tournament, which begins in two weeks in Evansville, Ind. Tennessee State, in the meantime, is looking for its first win of the season. The Golden Eagles will be looking to avoid any slip ups on Thursday as the two teams square off in Nashville at the Gentry Center, scheduled for a 5 p.m. tip. Dylan Vazzano will provide the radio call on 106.1 The Eagle, while C.J. Eke and Alex Gould will broadcast the game on ESPN+.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – When the Tennessee Tech women and Eastern Illinois met in January, it was a heated battle for much of the contest. Saturday, Tech took the lessons learned from the previous meeting and shut down a talented offensive squad. An 11-point run in the second quarter put Tech ahead and the Golden Eagles never looked back on Saturday as Tech defeated Eastern Illinois 62-45, picking up its third straight win and eighth out of the last ten games. The Golden Eagles improved to 12-6, 10-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference as Tech moved into fourth place in the league standings. Eastern Illinois dropped into the current No. 8 spot with a 9-12 record, 7-9 in conference play.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – When Tennessee Tech took on Eastern Illinois in Charleston back in the early days of January, the Golden Eagle women got hot at just the right time. Facing a one-point deficit at the end of three quarters, Tech surged to a 72-67 victory. Eastern Illinois led by as many as 15 points midway through the third quarter and an extraordinary effort led by Maaliya Owens with nine points in the final 10 minutes helped erase the Panthers’ lead. Following the defeat on their home floor, EIU will be looking to reciprocate on Saturday as the Panthers visit the Hooper Eblen Center.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – While the excitement of the thrilling victory over Ohio Valley Conference leader UT Martin hasn’t faded just yet, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team knows there’s still a lot more to do. With SIUE coming into the Hooper Eblen Center on Thursday night, the Golden Eagles can’t back down yet. The visiting Cougars are the only OVC team in program history to hold a winning record over Tech, but the Golden Eagles have made efforts to reverse that trend in the last three seasons. Tipoff for Thursday’s game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Roger Ealey will have the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will handle broadcast duties on ESPN+ (subscription required).
MARTIN, Tenn. – The old Yogi Berra saying goes, “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.” Tennessee Tech proved the adage true on Saturday. UT Martin went on small runs and the Golden Eagles found ways to stand strong and bounce back. Despite trailing by 12 early in the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles weren’t backing down. But something clicked in the fourth quarter. A fantastic all-around team effort, led by a thrilling effort from Jordan Brock, saw Tech hand UT Martin its second Ohio Valley Conference loss of the season with a dramatic 77-73 victory on Saturday in the Elam Center.
MARTIN, Tenn. – UT Martin is the top team in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. There’s no debate on this – the Skyhawks have been toppled just once in league competition this season, a 72-67 loss at Jacksonville State back on December 30. Only one other team has knocked off the Skyhawks this season – No. 1-ranked Louisville. Twice. While this may seem to be an albatross to most teams, the Tennessee Tech women are standing their ground. The Golden Eagles have been in this situation before, breaking Belmont’s 47-game OVC winning streak a couple seasons back. In their illustrious history, the Tech women have also been on the other side of the equation, standing as the team with the target on their back. No question, Saturday’s game is a very important one for the Golden Eagles.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Turnovers plagued the Tennessee Tech women all night long on Thursday, but the Golden Eagles just kept finding ways to endure and come back. With 50 seconds remaining, Tech tied the game after coming back from a 10-point deficit not even five minutes earlier. But with 22 seconds left, the turnover was costly. As LaTrese Saine stripped the ball away during a transition from Mackenzie Coleman to Jordan Brock, all Tech could do was foul and try to get the ball back. Despite a tremendous effort, the Golden Eagles saw Southeast Missouri escape with a 59-55 victory Thursday night at the Show Me Center.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – It’s an important week for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team as the Golden Eagles hit the road to Cape Girardeau to take on Southeast Missouri on Thursday, then Tech heads to UT Martin for its lone contest against the league-leading Skyhawks this season. Tipoff from the Show Me Center is slated for 5 p.m. on Thursday. Dylan Vazzano will provide the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be broadcast on ESPN+ (subscription required). Tech (9-5, 7-4 Ohio Valley Conference) has won five of the last six games and currently stands tied with SEMO (9-7, 7-4 OVC) in fourth place in the league standings. UT Martin (11-3, 10-1 OVC), Belmont (8-4, 5-2 OVC) and Austin Peay (9-5, 7-3 OVC) currently hold the top three spots.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Against one of the more physical teams in the Ohio Valley Conference, the Tennessee Tech women held their own against Morehead State. In the meeting at Morehead, the Golden Eagles went down to the final possession. This time around, on Saturday, the Tech women reversed their fortunes and pulled away, cruising to a 58-49 victory at the Hooper Eblen Center.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Since Morehead State last played Tennessee Tech in the opening week of the 2021 year, the Eagles experienced some lows as well as some highs, breaking a three-game losing streak with a three-game winning streak to balance things out. After a decisive loss to Ohio Valley Conference front-runner UT Martin last Saturday, MSU was idle on Thursday as its game against Jacksonville State was postponed. But Morehead State will come into the Hooper Eblen Center ready to take on Tennessee Tech to try to break up the Golden Eagles’ recent run of success of four wins in the last five games.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team returned back from Richmond, Ky., on January 9, head coach Kim Rosamond gathered the troops in the back of the bus, determined that the Golden Eagles were going to bounce back from a frustrating loss to the Colonels. “That was a tough weekend,” she said. “We were 0-2 on that road trip and we left Eastern Kentucky very, very disappointed. When we got back into Cookeville, I went to the back of the bus and told them if we could play as hard as we played against them, we would fix the execution piece.” In the five games since, it looks like they may be on the right path. In the span since, Tech has lost once, pulling together four wins. That includes a decisive win on Thursday as the Golden Eagles powered their way to a 74-58 victory against that same Eastern Kentucky team in the Hooper Eblen Center.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It hasn't been that long since the Tennessee Tech women faced Eastern Kentucky. Just four games and 17 days sit in between the last meeting, but the Golden Eagles still have a crystal-clear memory of that last meeting. The two teams will face off again on Thursday night at the Hooper Eblen Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. The game is now a single contest after the men's contest has been postponed until February 15 as the Colonel men enter COVID protocols. Roger Ealey will deliver the radio call for 106.1 The Eagle, while Bob Belvin and Michael Cooper will broadcast the game on ESPN+ (subscription required).
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – After a long week on the road, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team ran into a determined Jacksonville State squad on Monday night. The homestanding Gamecocks shot the ball at a scorching rate, and while Tech rallied back late, JSU came up on the winning end, topping Tech 69-58 at Pete Mathews Coliseum. While the Golden Eagles were able to frustrate the Gamecocks early, forcing a few JSU turnovers, once Jacksonville State squad settled down, they shot the ball at a red-hot rate, going 6-of-13 from the field in the first quarter and only improving from there. The Gamecocks were 8-for-15 in the second and 7-for-9 in the third. JSU finished the contest shooting 50.9 percent from the field, including 7-for-15 from 3-point range and 6-for-11 from the free-throw line.
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – It’s only been a little under a month and a half, but it seems like ages since the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team last took on Jacksonville State back in December 13. The Golden Eagles won that game by a slim 68-66 advantage in the Hooper Eblen Center, but that was only Tech’s second game of the season after a series of COVID-related schedule changes. Even as the Golden Eagles look to take the regular-season sweep on Monday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum, the contest takes on much different stakes than when they last met. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Roger Ealey will provide the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be broadcast on ESPN+ (subscription required).
MURRAY, Ky. – As the public address announcer at Murray State accidentally announced the wrong name for the forward starter for the Tennessee Tech women instead of Mackenzie Coleman, the senior just laughed off the error. The Racer fans, however, certainly remembered her presence as Coleman helped set the stage for a 75-58 rout over Murray State at CFSB Center on Saturday. Tech improves to 7-4 overall, 5-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while Murray State saw its record evened at 7-7, 4-5 in the league.
MURRAY, Ky. – After a victorious return to Cookeville Thursday night following a 66-61 victory over Austin Peay, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team will load up the bus once again on Saturday as the Golden Eagles continue their three-game road trip with a visit to Murray State. Tipoff on Saturday at the CFSB Center is slated for 4:30 p.m. Roger Ealey will provide the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) with Jeremy Rose providing the call. Murray State enters the contest with a 7-6 record, 4-4 in the Ohio Valley, but the last two games for the Racers are big wins. First, the Racers knocked off Belmont 72-66 – the program’s first win over the Bruins since Belmont joined the OVC in the 2012-13 season and only Belmont’s second OVC loss at home (Tech defeating the Bruins in the 2018-19 campaign at the Curb Event Center is the other).
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – When the outside shots weren’t falling, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team pounded the paint instead. With a gutsy effort in the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles rallied from a 51-46 after three quarters and outscored Austin Peay 20-10 in the final 10 minutes to take a 66-61 victory in the Dunn Center on Thursday night. Tech improves to 6-4, 4-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while Austin Peay drops to 7-5, 5-3 in the league.
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – It’s going to be a tough test for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team on Thursday night as the Golden Eagles head to Clarksville to take on Austin Peay. Tipoff on Thursday at the Dunn Center is slated for 4:30 p.m. Roger Ealey will provide the radio call for 106.1 The Eagle, while Ethan Schmidt and Josh Stephenson will handle broadcast duties on ESPN+ (subscription required). Austin Peay comes into the contest on Thursday with a 7-4 record, 5-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Governors had a quick start in the league winning its first five games in league play, knocking off Murray State, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee State, SIUE and Eastern Illinois in succession.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It was a dominant performance for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team on Saturday night as the Golden Eagles cleared their bench for an 83-34 victory over visiting Tennessee State. “I’m proud of our kids and proud of their effort,” said Tech head coach Kim Rosamond. “It was a really good team win. It was a good way to bounce back from a really tough road weekend last weekend at Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky. “While we would have loved to play Belmont on Thursday night, we really needed some time to work on ourselves, especially during this COVID season. Practice time has been very difficult to find, so being able to get in here for three days and really work on, first of all, defense, since we were not pleased with our defensive effort last weekend. We also haven’t been shooting the ball well.”
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After a tough week on the road, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team is ready to get back in action in front of their home fans. The Golden Eagles will get that opportunity on Saturday as they host Tennessee State. Tipoff against the Lady Tigers is scheduled for 5 p.m. Roger Ealey will provide the radio call on 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will cover the game via streaming on ESPN+ (subscription required). Tennessee State, under the direction of first-year head coach Ty Evans, has had a rough go of it so far, posting a 0-8 record, 0-6 in the Ohio Valley. Despite hosting three players who are averaging double figures, the Lady Tigers have only had one game this season that ended in a single-digit result with an 88-83 loss to Georgia State in overtime.
RICHMOND, Ky. – The difference statistically between Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky pretty much came down to one thing on Saturday afternoon – the Colonels got to the free-throw line and the Golden Eagles didn’t. As Eastern Kentucky pulled away on runs, Tech responded chipping away and chipping away, even climbing back within one with 8:37 remaining in the contest. But as the Colonels started seeing the charity stripe more and more in the waning seconds, EKU was able to inflate its lead to the final margin of 73-65. The defeat spoiled Tech’s first two double-doubles of the season as senior Mackenzie Coleman grabbed her eighth career double-double and junior Anna Jones tacking on her first. Coleman led the Golden Eagles with 15 points and 10 boards, while Jones had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
RICHMOND, Ky. – If there's any team in the Ohio Valley Conference that is gunning for the Tennessee Tech women, Eastern Kentucky probably fits that bill. The Golden Eagles have taken the last four meetings and Tech owns a 70-28 record in the all-time series. With the Colonels reversing their trends of the past few seasons with a 4-5 start, 3-2 in the Ohio Valley, Saturday's contest could be an interesting matchup.
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Even when Morehead State went on a few runs, Tennessee Tech kept finding ways to climb back. Thursday’s game came down to the wire, but the final Morehead stretch came late and even some last-second heroics from Jada Guinn and Kesha Brady weren’t enough to knot the game once more. The homestanding Eagles topped Tech 65-62 on Thursday night at Johnson Arena, but the Golden Eagles (4-3, 2-2 Ohio Valley Conference) won’t have long to dwell on the loss as they travel up the road to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday to finish Tech’s Death Valley swing.
MOREHEAD, Ky. – When the Tennessee Tech women tip off on Thursday afternoon at Morehead State, it will be the first game since December 19 for the homestanding Eagles. Holiday aside, the extended break saw a game against Bellarmine canceled and a contest against SIUE postponed. Now, nearly 18 days later, they’ll entertain the Golden Eagles. Tipoff on Wednesday is slated for 3 p.m. Central time. Roger Ealey will provide the call for 106.1 The Eagle, while Jack Kizer will handle play-by-play duties for ESPN+ (subscription required).
CHARLESTON, Ill. – There were certainly plenty of moments where Saturday’s game looked in doubt, but don’t tell that to sophomore Maaliya Owens. In the fourth quarter alone, Owens scored nine of her 16 points, helping to propel the Tennessee Tech women from a 15-point deficit nearing the midpoint of the third quarter to a 72-67 victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon at Lantz Arena.
CHARLESTON, Ill. – It’s time to take the show back out on the road. The Tennessee Tech women’s basketball spent almost all of December in the friendly confines of the Hooper Eblen Center, only playing once on the road in the Golden Eagles’ season opener at Chattanooga. On Saturday, they’ll hit the road once again as Tech heads to Eastern Illinois. Due to guidelines issued by the state of Illinois, fans will not be allowed at Saturday’s game. The game, set to tip off at 1 p.m., will be broadcast on ESPN+ (subscription required) with Rob Calhoun and Rameen Karsbassloon handling play-by-play and analyst duties.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – When a team is shooting as hot as Southeast Missouri was on Wednesday night, even when Tennessee Tech was doing the right things, it was overshadowed. The Golden Eagles saw their three-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday in the Hooper Eblen Center, falling 79-70 to the visiting Redhawks. Tech (3-2, 1-1 Ohio Valley Conference) won’t have time to dwell on the defeat long as they return to action on Saturday at Eastern Illinois for a 1 p.m. contest.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – How things change in just a matter of time. The last time Tennessee Tech and Southeast Missouri faced off in women’s basketball, the Cookeville and Putnam County area was hardly 48 hours removed from a devastating tornado. A week later, the COVID-19 pandemic made its early moves into our normal day-to-day routine and things have hardly been the same since. Now, over nine months later, the two teams take each other again as Ohio Valley Conference action fills out the rest of the Golden Eagle slate. Tipoff Wednesday is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hooper Eblen Center.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – On the same day senior guard Jordan Brock was honored for surpassing the 1,000-point mark in her career, she showed why she has been a crucial part of the Tennessee Tech offense over the last few years. Brock ended the game with 22 points as she helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 73-59 victory over Western Kentucky on Sunday in a game that was a quick change after Saturday’s opponent, Samford, had to cancel as the team entered COVID protocols.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With the game on the line, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team came up big at the free-throw line, using a 17-for-19 night as the momentum to hold off Western Carolina 67-63 on Wednesday night at the Hooper Eblen Center. “Sometimes you just have to dig in and find ways to win,” said Tech head coach Kim Rosamond. “I thought our kids did, especially in the second half. There’s not much pretty about it other than it was a W. I’m proud of the way they were able to dig deep. We made plays when we had to make plays. We won the game at the free-throw line."
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After a successful home opener on Sunday, the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team will continue the homestand as the Golden Eagles entertain Western Carolina on Wednesday night. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. Roger Ealey will provide the radio call for 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will call the action on ESPN+ (subscription required). The Golden Eagles (1-1) pulled together a complete team effort on Sunday to knock off Jacksonville State in Tech’s Ohio Valley Conference opener and only league action until December 30. Senior Kesha Brady knocked down a pair of go-ahead free throws with four seconds remaining en route to 27 points – her third-highest point total in her career and most at home. She was also 13-of-16 from the free-throw line, a career-best as well.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – One game in the books and the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team won’t have much time to dwell on the past as the Golden Eagles open Ohio Valley Conference play on Sunday against Jacksonville State. Tipoff for the game is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday. Roger Ealey will have the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will provide broadcast duties on ESPN+. Tech is coming off of a tough 76-65 loss on Friday to open the season at Chattanooga. It was an uncharacteristic performance, but it was also the team’s first game of the season after COVID protocols wiped out the first four games of the season.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team started quickly and finished strong. It was the middle two stanzas, however, that made it a tough day for the Golden Eagles. As Tech shook off the rust of opening the season in mid-December, the Golden Eagles still gave Chattanooga a fight in a 76-65 loss on Friday afternoon. Senior guard Kesha Brady put her effort into overdrive as she collected 11 of her 26 points in the final quarter as Tech bounced back from a 21-point deficit. She narrowly missed a double-double as she pulled down a team-high eight boards in the contest.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s a busy weekend for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team as it kicks off its golden anniversary season with a pair of games on Friday and Sunday. Up first, the Golden Eagles travel to Chattanooga on Friday to take on the Mocs at McKenzie Arena with opening tip slated for a 2 p.m. Central start. That game will be available on 106.1 The Eagle with Dylan Vazzano providing the radio call, while also streamed on ESPN+ with Chris Goforth and Todd Agne describing the action. Chattanooga will not allow fans outside of student-athlete families to attend through the end of December, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Hamilton County.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Once upon a time, a young girl picked up a basketball. From those first dribbles and shots, something clicked. Something told this girl that she too wanted to play this game. It grew into a love of the game, a competitive spirit and much, much more. Fifty years ago, Marynell Meadors, a recent graduate from Middle Tennessee, saw an opportunity – give young women the opportunity to play the game, to learn and grow from it and create something that could become not only special to themselves, but to the campus and its community. The seeds were planted all those long years ago in Memorial Gym. Time has passed and the seeds sprouted, blossomed into something greater than what was probably envisioned.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – To say the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team has been blessed with some tremendous guards in its 50-year history would be an understatement. The Golden Eagles could be adding another record-breaking scorer to the mix as Tech Head Coach Kim Rosamond announced on Wednesday morning the signing of 5-8 guard Harley Paynter. Kentucky has been fertile recruiting ground for Tech over the last few years, and the Boyd County High School sharpshooter will join current Tech standouts Mackenzie Coleman, Jordan Brock and Maaliya Owens as players who have traveled from the Bluegrass State to wear Purple and Gold since Rosamond and her staff arrived in 2016. BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – With the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team getting set to kick off its season on November 25, the Ohio Valley Conference released its preseason projections and all-conference team on Friday, based on the voting of the league’s coaches and sports information contacts. The Golden Eagles were projected to finish fourth, in what could be a hotly-contested battle for the top five spots in the league. UT Martin, with 22 first-place votes, were tabbed as the preseason favorite, while Belmont and reigning OVC tournament champ Southeast Missouri were voted second and third. Following Tech in fourth, Eastern Illinois was in fifth. The rest of the order saw Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, SIUE and Tennessee State in succession.
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Amid all the uncertainty with the COVID-19 pandemic, there is one thing for sure – there will be basketball in the Hooper Eblen Center. The Ohio Valley Conference announced its 2020-21 slate on Thursday, which will give the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team an opportunity to celebrate its 50th anniversary as the Golden Eagles look for their 19th regular-season title and 10th tournament crown. Coupled with an exciting non-conference schedule, Tech women’s basketball looks to make this anniversary year an exciting one. “Even with the challenges that the virus will present this season, our team is just excited and grateful to be on the court together preparing for this season,” said Tech head coach Kim Rosamond. “In all we do, the health and safety of our players, as well as our family and fans, will always come first, and I appreciate how hard our administration is working behind the scenes to give us an opportunity to play.
