COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team honored its three seniors on Sunday as the Golden Eagles completed the home portion of its schedule. But the celebration was bittersweet as Morehead State completed the sweep, winning 2-1 and 7-3. Tech (16-31, 7-13) has just one series remaining as it travels to Jacksonville State on Friday for a doubleheader.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s a make-or-break weekend for the Tennessee Tech softball team as the Golden Eagles look to secure a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament with six games remaining in the regular season. Tech (16-27, 7-9 OVC) will have its hands full though as it entertains Eastern Kentucky (29-14, 11-1 OVC) on Saturday, then Morehead State (23-15, 4-8 OVC) on Sunday for the final two regular-season home doubleheaders of the season. Both doubleheaders have a start time of 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and will be carried live on the OVC Digital Network with Dylan Vazzano providing the call from the Golden Eagle Sports Network.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Gabby LaSala continued her fantastic weekend, powering the Tennessee Tech softball team to five runs as the Golden Eagles run-ruled SIUE 12-2 in five innings on Sunday. The home-standing Cougars had to overcome a six-spot on the board from Tech in the nightcap, scoring four runs in the home half of the fifth to avoid the sweep, handing the Golden Eagles an 8-6 defeat in the second game.

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Four home runs helped propel the Tennessee Tech softball team to a split Saturday afternoon as the Golden Eagles poured on seven runs for a 7-1 victory in the nightcap over Eastern Illinois. The Panthers used a walk-off double in game one to take a 5-4 victory. With the split against EIU, Tech’s record improves to 15-26, 6-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference as the Golden Eagles try to work its way toward a berth in the postseason tournament in May.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s a big weekend for the Tennessee Tech softball team as the Golden Eagles square off with two of the top teams in the Ohio Valley Conference standings as Tech travels to Eastern Illinois on Saturday, then takes on SIUE on Sunday. Tech (14-25, 5-7 in OVC play) currently stands in eighth, which would take the last spot in the conference tournament if the season ended today. Meanwhile, the Panthers (28-11, 7-3 OVC) and the Cougars (17-14, 7-3 OVC) are currently in a tie for third in the league standings, trailing Jacksonville State (24-16, 11-1 OVC) and Eastern Kentucky (25-14, 7-1 OVC).

Her efforts took the majority of the first-place votes as the Ohio Valley Conference’s softball contacts named Sparks the league’s adidas® Player of the Week on Monday.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Friday may have been Friday the 13th, but the only date that was scaring the Tennessee Tech softball coming into the doubleheader against Murray State was Feb. 24. Why that date? The Golden Eagles took a crushing 21-0, five-inning loss to the Racers at the Trojan Classic in Troy, Ala. And with the Racers coming to Cookeville searching for their first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season and Tech winning three of its last four, the twinbill appeared to be the definition of a trap game. But with the way Tech was hitting, the Golden Eagles were determined to keep the Racers (10-29, 0-10 OVC) behind the starting gate.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It could be a chilly, wet weekend in Cookeville, but the Tennessee Tech softball team is shifting its schedule around to get games in this weekend as it hosts Tennessee State on Friday and Belmont on Sunday. The series against the Tigers was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, but now holds a 12:30 p.m. start on Friday. The series against the Bruins remains at its originally scheduled 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. start times on Sunday. The games are currently planned for streaming video broadcast on the OVC Digital Network, weather permitting, with Dylan Vazzano providing the call.

The Governors have an 18-9 record thus far in the 2018 campaign, including a 3-1 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play after sweeping Morehead State and splitting with Eastern Kentucky last weekend.

The Golden Eagles beat Eastern Michigan 5-4, then fell 5-1 to Memphis.

UPDATE (8:00 a.m. 3/16/18) -- The scheduled game against Southeast Missouri has been postponed to Sunday at 2:45 p.m. Tech will only face host Memphis at 11 a.m. on Friday. MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With a five-game winning streak in tow, the Tennessee Tech softball team is starting to feel a lot more confident, and that gives the Golden Eagles an opportunity to show what they’re capable this weekend as they head to Memphis to compete in the Memphis Tiger Classic. Weather for this weekend’s five-game set does appear favorable, with a slight chance of scattered thunderstorms on Friday morning and late evening, but fairly clear for most of the weekend.

URI has lost its last 10 games, its lone victory coming on Feb. 17 against Mount St. Mary’s at Elon, N.C.

Kayla Hughes picked up her first win of the season in the day’s nightcap, pitching the complete game as she allowed four earned runs on 10 hits, striking out two in the Golden Eagles’ 9-5 win over the Bulldogs.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Bayli Cruse’s bat sent several balls into the outfield like cruise missiles on Friday as the Tennessee Tech softball team picked up its second straight win, toppling the Hilltoppers 7-6 in the second day of the Chattanooga Challenge. Cruse went 3-for-4 in Tech’s lone game of the day, driving in five runs with a three-run home run and a two-run single. Cruse also scored twice as the Golden Eagles improved to 2-4 on the young season.

Originally slated to begin action in the Chattanooga Challenge tournament on Friday, the forecast has prompted the tournament to start a day earlier, with the Golden Eagles taking the field on Thursday, taking on Chattanooga at 2 p.m. Central, followed by a contest against Western Kentucky at approximately 4 p.m.
