2017 (Freshman): Hughes played in 13 games in the field, starting four ... batted .111 with two hits in 18 at-bats ... drove in two RBI and scored once ... in the circle, Hughes appeared in 10 games with three starts, going the distance once ... compiled a 3.00 ERA in 18 2/3 innings of work ... struck out 10 and walked 15.
HIGH SCHOOL: In her prep career, Hughes batted .325 with nine home runs, and compiled a 61-11 record in the circle with a 1.83 earned run average in 388 innings. She was named to the all-state team in 2014 and 2015, named to the Best of Preps 2014 and 2015 by the Chattanooga Times Free Press, was the Tennessee Player of the Game during the 2016 Tennessee-Georgia All-Star Game, and was the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Athlete of the Year for Southeast Tennessee in 2016.
Her Baylor School squad won the TSSAA Division II-AA state championship in 2013, 2015 and 2016. As a senior, Hughes batted .327 with five home runs, as well as pitching her way to an 18-3 record and a 1.66 ERA in 114 innings.
CLUB TEAM: Hughes played club ball with the Chattanooga Force.

But the celebration was bittersweet as Morehead State completed the sweep, winning 2-1 and 7-3. Tech (16-27, 7-9 OVC) will have its hands full though as it entertains Eastern Kentucky (29-14, 11-1 OVC) on Saturday, then Morehead State (23-15, 4-8 OVC) on Sunday for the final two regular-season home doubleheaders of the season. EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Gabby LaSala continued her fantastic weekend, powering the Tennessee Tech softball team to five runs as the Golden Eagles run-ruled SIUE 12-2 in five innings on Sunday. The home-standing Cougars had to overcome a six-spot on the board from Tech in the nightcap, scoring four runs in the home half of the fifth to avoid the sweep, handing the Golden Eagles an 8-6 defeat in the second game.
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Four home runs helped propel the Tennessee Tech softball team to a split Saturday afternoon as the Golden Eagles poured on seven runs for a 7-1 victory in the nightcap over Eastern Illinois. The Panthers used a walk-off double in game one to take a 5-4 victory. With the split against EIU, Tech’s record improves to 15-26, 6-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference as the Golden Eagles try to work its way toward a berth in the postseason tournament in May.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – In the Tennessee Tech softball team’s final non-conference game of the season, the Golden Eagles couldn’t get enough timely hits to keep pace with visiting Lipscomb, falling 5-1 on Wednesday. Tech was held to three hits as Chloe Yeager (6-1) earned the victory, walking none and striking out one as she yielded one run.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Taylor Waldrop found herself in an unusual situation during the beginning of the Ohio Valley Conference schedule. Injured, the senior Tennessee Tech pitcher could only just sit back and watch as her teammates took tough defeats in the first three weekends of the league slate, coming back to Cookeville with an 0-6 record in OVC play. That changed on Friday as Waldrop pitched her first career shutout over Tennessee State to give Tech its first league win, then again on Sunday as Waldrop held off Belmont on Sunday in a 3-0 victory, throwing her second straight shutout to increase her career total to the same number.

The series against the Tigers was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, but now holds a 12:30 p.m. start on Friday. The series against the Bruins remains at its originally scheduled 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. start times on Sunday. CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Gabby LaSala went 4-for-6 from the plate on Friday as she tried to get the bats going for the Tennessee Tech softball team, but the streaking Austin Peay team got the upper hand, taking both games 7-2 and 2-1. Tech (9-23, 0-6 Ohio Valley Conference) is idle for the rest of the Easter holiday weekend, returning to action on Saturday, April 7, as the Golden Eagles host Tennessee State and try to snap a seven-game losing streak.
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – It may be a rainy day in Clarksville today, but there’s still softball tentatively on the schedule for Friday as the Tennessee Tech softball team will make its way there to take on Austin Peay. The Governors have an 18-9 record thus far in the 2018 campaign, including a 3-1 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play after sweeping Morehead State and splitting with Eastern Kentucky last weekend.
MARTIN, Tenn. – UT Martin scored nine runs through the first four innings on Sunday as the Tennessee Tech softball team attempted to rally back in both ends of the doubleheader against the Skyhawks. Tech (9-21, 0-4 Ohio Valley Conference) lost 9-4 in the opener, then dropped a 3-2 decision in the closer.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Senior Bayli Cruse knocked in three of Tennessee Tech’s four runs on Friday as the Golden Eagle softball team opened Ohio Valley Conference play with Southeast Missouri taking both ends of the doubleheader. The Redhawks (18-10, 2-0 OVC) defeated Tech 5-1 in the opener, then 4-3 in the nightcap.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The tournaments are out of the way. Now it’s time for the real season to begin. After a month of long weekends against teams from all over the country, the Tennessee Tech softball team will make its case for another Ohio Valley Conference championship as the Golden Eagles open league play this weekend at Southeast Missouri.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team earned a walk-off win on Sunday over Eastern Michigan, then attempted to rally against home-standing Memphis in the final day of the Memphis Tiger Classic, collecting a split as the Golden Eagles return home. The Golden Eagles beat Eastern Michigan 5-4, then fell 5-1 to Memphis.
UPDATE 2 (1:31 p.m. 3/16/18) -- With rain continuing in the Memphis area on Friday, Tech's game against Memphis has been cancelled. Schedule updates will be provided when available. UPDATE (8:00 a.m. 3/16/18) -- The scheduled game against Southeast Missouri has been postponed to Sunday at 2:45 p.m. Tech will only face host Memphis at 11 a.m. on Friday. MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With a five-game winning streak in tow, the Tennessee Tech softball team is starting to feel a lot more confident, and that gives the Golden Eagles an opportunity to show what they’re capable this weekend as they head to Memphis to compete in the Memphis Tiger Classic. Weather for this weekend’s five-game set does appear favorable, with a slight chance of scattered thunderstorms on Friday morning and late evening, but fairly clear for most of the weekend.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The ways the Tennessee Tech softball team got its wins on Tuesday may have been dramatic, but the only thing the Golden Eagles cared about was getting the sweep over Rhode Island. Tech stretched its winning streak to five games as the Golden Eagles beat the visiting Rams 2-1 in game one, then rallied for an 8-7 victory in the nightcap.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team comes home with a winning streak in tow as the Golden Eagles entertain Rhode Island for a twinbill, starting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams, out of the Atlantic 10 Conference, come into Cookeville with a 1-11 record, following a trip to Murray, Ky., for the Racer Classic. URI has lost its last 10 games, its lone victory coming on Feb. 17 against Mount St. Mary’s at Elon, N.C.
CLINTON, S.C. – After opening its home slate last weekend, it’s back on the road again for the Tennessee Tech softball team as they head to South Carolina to close out their Spring Break with a visit to Presbyterian College on Saturday and Sunday. Tech will play a three-game series against the Blue Hose, starting with an 11-1 doubleheader on Saturday, then a single game on Sunday.
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It was Raegan Sparks’ day at the plate as she led the Tennessee Tech softball team to a split against Samford on Sunday afternoon as she went 4-for-7 with seven RBI and her fifth home run of the season. Kayla Hughes picked up her first win of the season in the day’s nightcap, pitching the complete game as she allowed four earned runs on 10 hits, striking out two in the Golden Eagles’ 9-5 win over the Bulldogs.
BOONE, N.C. – In both games Saturday, the Tennessee Tech softball team struck to take the lead on Appalachian State, but the homestanding Mountaineers had the last laugh, rallying in both contests to hand Tech a 3-2 defeat in game one and a 10-8 loss in the nightcap. Tech (3-13) will make the trek back to Cookeville on Saturday night, then will try to take a pair of games against Samford on Sunday afternoon, starting at 2 p.m., to try to open the home slate on a high note.
TROY, Ala. – It was a tough day offensively for the Tennessee Tech softball team on Saturday in the second day of the Trojan Classic. The Golden Eagles were held to just three hits against OVC foe Murray State, after getting held to a single run to UAB on eight hits. Tech (2-11) fell 8-1 to the Blazers in the day's opening contest, then dropped a 21-0 decision to the Racers in the later action.
TROY, Ala. – After a run-rule loss to No. 16-ranked Ole Miss to start the day, the Tennessee Tech softball team had a chance to knock off Trojan Classic host Troy in the second game of the day, but the rally fell short as the Golden Eagles fell 3-2 on Friday afternoon. Tech (2-9) dropped a 12-2 decision to the Rebels in the first game.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The threat of rain permeated the day Saturday, but it ended up costing Tech as the Golden Eagles started to build momentum against Sacred Heart as the game was called after posting a four-spot on the scoreboard, falling 10-4 in five innings to close out play in the Chattanooga Challenge. Tech (2-7) also dropped the day’s first game against Indiana State 7-4.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – One down, many more to go as the Tennessee Tech softball team would hope as the Golden Eagles earned their first win of the season with a 9-5 victory over Western Kentucky on Thursday in the first day of the Chattanooga Challenge. The day started with a 7-5 loss to host Chattanooga as it rallied from a 5-0 deficit with two runs in the second and five in the fourth to overcome the Golden Eagles’ hot start.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Bayli Cruse’s bat sent several balls into the outfield like cruise missiles on Friday as the Tennessee Tech softball team picked up its second straight win, toppling the Hilltoppers 7-6 in the second day of the Chattanooga Challenge. Cruse went 3-for-4 in Tech’s lone game of the day, driving in five runs with a three-run home run and a two-run single. Cruse also scored twice as the Golden Eagles improved to 2-4 on the young season.
AUBURN, Ala. – Saturday’s action in the Plainsman Invitational proceeded as scheduled, but the Tennessee Tech softball team ran into some rough patches The Golden Eagles (0-4) saw Marshall rally then take a commanding 10-4 victory in the first game, then Tech had no answer for No. 13 Auburn in the second game, falling 18-0 in five innings.
AUBURN, Ala. – The first day of the Plainsman Invitational may not have gone exactly the way the Tennessee Tech softball team had planned, but despite two losses, the Golden Eagles did have positives during their first day of action. Tech (0-2) saw Wichita State hold off a late rally for a 6-4 victory in the first game, then No. 13-ranked Auburn blanked the Golden Eagles 3-0 in the second game.
