2018 (Junior): Saw action in eight games, starting the season finale against Eastern Kentucky ... completed 19 of his 53 passes for 246 yards with a touchdown pass ... also rushed 34 times for 159 yards ... averaged 30.8 passing yards and 19.9 rushing yards per game ... threw for season-high 60 yards at Chattanooga, then went 2-for-3 with a touchdown and 54 yards at Jacksonville State, and went 6-for-13 for 58 yards at UT Martin ... rushed for a season-high 65 yards on seven carries at Austin Peay.

2017 (Sophomore): Played in six games in 2017, completing 50 of his 101 passes for 503 yards and eight touchdowns. He averaged 83.8 yards per game and five yards per attempt. His best outing of the season came at Murray State, where he completed 19 of his 39 passes for 201 yards, throwing three touchdowns.

2016 (Redshirt freshman): Played in one game, rushing the ball twice for four total yards in the Golden Eagles' finale against Murray State.

2015 (Freshman): Was on the roster, but did not see any action on the varsity squad.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played quarterback for four years for head coach Jeff Robertson at Riverside High School...also played baseball for four seasons for head coach Dusty Rhodes, winning the Class 2A state championship in 2011 and 2012.

PERSONAL: The son of Paul and Jenny Ward...full name is Lucas Gray Ward...born on June 19, 1996...father Paul played football at Murray State from 1984 to 1987.

Golden Eagles look to send 2019 seniors out with a win

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Twenty-one Tennessee Tech football players will put on their uniforms for the last time on Saturday as the Golden Eagles close out the 2019 campaign against Tennessee State. But the tears aren’t being shed just yet nor the memories being recollected as there’s still plenty of business at hand for Tech in this 12th and final game of the season. Kickoff from Tucker Stadium is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Dylan Vazzano and Sam Brooks will handle play-by-play coverage on ESPN+ (subscription required), while Roger Ealey and Buddy Pearson will tackle radio duties on 98.5 KISS FM.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – To build success, sometimes there must be some growing pains. Saturday night was one of those times. UT Martin came into Tucker Stadium and scored 48 straight points before the Tennessee Tech football team dented the scoreboard. As the final quarter wound down, the Golden Eagles added two touchdowns to keep from going empty-handed. The Skyhawks ended the game 55-14 victors, improving to 3-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference, 4-2 overall. Tech enters its open date with a 4-3 record, 1-2 in the league.

OXFORD, Ohio – Tennessee Tech head coach Dewayne Alexander took his players into the locker room Saturday afternoon following the Golden Eagles’ 48-17 loss to FBS school Miami (Ohio) and told them to keep their heads up. “On Monday, everything on this game is going in the trash,” he said. “This is a very good football team. We have so much left to play for.” And there is truth in his words.

Tech football wraps up scrimmage work with Gathering of Eagles

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As Tennessee Tech football wrapped up the annual Gathering of Eagles event, the last official scrimmage of fall camp, the countdown to August 31 is now officially on. Saturday wasn't the greatest showcase of the Golden Eagles' ability as the fatigue of camp, the sweltering summer heat and a busy day of events played their roles, but it wasn't the worst effort either as there were plenty of highlights. That said, there were several procedural penalties that cropped up and stalled drives as the Tech offense was handcuffed a few times from putting more points on the board. The Golden Eagle defense also played its part, creating a goal-line stop and forcing a couple of big turnovers to keep the offense at bay.
