High School: Wright spent one year as a guard on the basketball team before earning three letters as a pitcher and outfielder at McDowell High School… as a senior, hit .426 with seven extra base hits, 21 runs scored and 19 RBI… also tossed 37 innings with 47 strikeouts to go 6-1 with a 1.00 ERA on the mound… as a junior, tossed 31 innings with 45 strikeouts, a 4-2 record and a 2.20 ERA while also batting .406 with 18 RBI and two home runs… led MHS to District 10 AAAA titles all three seasons with the team, earning All-Region honors in the outfield each year… also named Atlantic All-Region Honorable Mention as a pitcher as a junior and senior… took home All-District Pitcher of the Year honors as a senior... named a Perfect Game Underclass Honorable Mention as a junior.
