Bio

The first volleyball player in Ohio Valley Conference History to be a three-time all-OVC selection, Becky Murray Isom was a standout player on four Tech championship teams. She was named the league’s Southern Division Player of the Year in 1986 and etched her name throughout the TTU record books.

The Tech volleyball team captured seven consecutive Southern Division championships under coach Sharron Bilbrey between 1982 and 1988, and it was Murray Isom who led the attack during the final four title runs.

Her impact on the league was so tremendous that in 1988, when the league celebrated its 40th anniversary, she was the only active player chosen for the 12-player “all-time all-OVC” volleyball team.

She was the first Tech player to top 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs, and at the time of her induction was one of just five members of Tech’s elite “Double-Grand” Club.

During her career, she was nationally ranked in the NCAA top 10 in both kills and digs. She was named all-OVC three times and earned a spot on the OVC all-tournament team twice. She was also named to all-tournament teams at Western Kentucky and East Tennessee.

When she finished her playing career, she held four school records. She had single-season marks for most games played and most attacks, and ranked second in most kills. On the career charts, she ranked first in kills per game and total attacks, second in total digs, and third in total kills.

A native of Cleveland, Tenn., she graduated from Tech in 1989 with a degree in accounting.
