Bio

Brooke Mayo’s leadership and sportsmanship were among the highlights of the 2010 soccer season at Tech, helping the program take a new direction under first-year head coach Daniel Brizard. At the same time, Mayo served as the president of Tech’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), accepting her position with enthusiasm and imagination while leading the organization in a variety of campus and community-based projects. Constantly striving to hone her leadership skills, she was one of four OVC student-athletes to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis. Taking her role of captain seriously, she was a motivator on the bench on game days, a leader at practices and a role model as a student-athlete. Brooke had a solid season on the field for Tech, but truly shined off the field both in the classroom and in her community service efforts. A four-year letterwinner, Mayo has also been named to the TTU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll all eight semesters and the OVC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll all three years while earning Honors with a 3.93 GPA in Exercise Science. Brooke received her degree with honors in May. Selected as a team captain for the second consecutive year, she wrapped up her senior season by receiving the Golden Eagle Award, an honor that exemplifies her overall contributions to the team and the University. She was a two-time winner of the President’s Award for her team, and in 2011 was one of three finalists campus-wide for the prestigious Derryberry Award. She was also a recipient of the OVC Academic Medal of Honor. Among the other honors bestowed upon Brooke were the James E. Ward Award for professionalism and academic achievement, the Raymond “Bull” Brown Scholarship, and the Ken Smith Memorial Scholarship. She has worked off-campus in teaching the sport of soccer, serving as a coach and counselor at camps in Chattanooga and Cookeville. In 2009, she planned and coordinated a local tournament with all proceeds going to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She served on the Phi Epsilon Kappa Honor Society, the Dining Food Service Committee, the OVC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and the Exercise Science Major Club. Brooke played in all 17 games in her senior season, starting 11 contests, and notched one goal and one assist. Her goal was the game-winner late in the season in Tech’s OVC victory over Jacksonville State. In her career, she played in 77 total matches.
