O'Brien, Holtzhausen remain undefeated in OVC, teams fall at JSU
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - It was over a four hour drive down to
Jacksonville, Ala. and the Tennessee Tech tennis teams were looking
to have it feel shorter on the way back. But the Gamecocks proved a
little stronger than the Golden Eagles as they picked up the team
sweep.
The Jacksonville State men picked up a 5-2 win over Tech while the
women fell 6-1.
"Both teams played well," said coach Dan Silverstein. "Both Dean
and Kelly still proved why they are the reinging OVC Players of the
Week."
Sophomore Dean O'Brien improved to 10-1 this spring with a win over
Scott Robertson, 6-4, 7-5. He also picked up his second win over a
ranked doubles team this year when he teamed up with freshman Alex
Chen to win over No. 74 ranked team of Robertson and Eduardo
Saratt, 9-8 (7-3).
Freshman Justin Kirstein picked up Tech's other win at no. 4
singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Gustavo Holz.
Tech's women came in with a 7-0 sweep over Southeast Missouri, but
was unable to pick up the same result.
Sophomore Kelly Holtzhausen picked up the lone win for Tech at no.
1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over defending OVC Player of the Year Viviane
Marani.
Fellow sophomore Katie Barnhill teamed up with Holtzhausen for the
8-6 win over Marani and Rafaila Wenzel.
Both Tech teams will return to action tomorrow then they travel to
Austin Peay. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
