Tech volleyball heads to Nashville for the Lipscomb Invitational

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After a rough opening at the Georgia Tech Invitational last weekend, the Tennessee Tech volleyball team will look to turn its fortunes around as it heads to Nashville Friday, for the two-day Lipscomb Invitational.

"The competition is still going to be very good," head coach John Blair said. "All of the teams are well coached and will be in the mix for their conference championships."

The Golden Eagles take on a pair of opponents Friday, including Lipscomb at 12:30 p.m., and Arkansas State at 5 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend Saturday against UNC Charlotte at 12 p.m.

The Lipscomb Lady Bisons enter the weekend winless in three matches this season. Kaycee Green currently leads the Lady Bisons in kills with 44, while Caitlin Dotson has dished out a team-high 73 assists.

TTU and Lipscomb share identical records of 3-3 against each other, with Lipscomb winning the last meeting 3-0 back in 2009.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves enter the Lipscomb Invitational with a 1-2 record, which includes a pair of 3-2 losses to Samford and Alabama-Birmingham. Megan Baska leads the Red Wolves in digs with 77, while Cayla Fielder has recorded 11 total blocks.

The Golden Eagles are 1-2 all-time against Arkansas State, including a 3-0 loss in their last meeting back in 1987.

UNC Charlotte earned a pair of 3-2 victories against Kennesaw State and Appalachian State and currently sits at 2-1 on the season. Amanda Videmsek leads the 49er offense with 37 kills, while Sheri Davis has dished out a team-high 117 assists.

Tech is 3-1 all-time against the 49ers, including a 3-1 win in their last meeting back in 1986.

"We're looking to see more progression out of our players this weekend," Blair said. "Hopefully we will be more prepared than we were last weekend."
