Golden Eagle volleyball begins a four-match road trip this weekend against Austin Peay and Tennessee State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Fresh off its win last Saturday against Murray State, the Tennessee Tech volleyball team will head off on its final road trip of the regular season, beginning with Austin Peay Friday, at 7 p.m., and Tennessee State Saturday, at 2 p.m.

The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a couple of players who made a huge impact in Tech's recent win over Murray State. Sophomore Natalie Penrod, who leads the team in kills with 234, recorded 24 kills in TTU's win over the Racers, including three crucial kills in the closing moments of the match.

Junior Kelsey Gray also made her presence felt at the net with nine total blocks, including seven solo tallies against the Racers. Her 326 total blocks over her career are just five behind Carrie Slagle for fifth on the all-times blocks list at Tech.

Sophomore Allison May, who has shored up the Tech defense this season, leads the Golden Eagles in digs with 425 and now sits just 41 digs away from 1,000 career digs with 959.

Austin Peay currently sits in ninth place in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 7-18 record, along with a 5-9 OVC record. Nikki Doyle leads the Lady Gov offense with 323 kills, while Cami Fields has run the offense dishing out 984 assists. Tech leads the all-time series against the Lady Govs with a mark of 48-25.

Tennessee State enters the weekend sitting in third place in the OVC with a 9-5 conference mark and a 15-9 overall record. In their previous meeting this season the Golden Eagles defeated TSU 3-2 at Eblen Center. TTU leads the all-time series against the Tigers with a 35-7 record.

Shaquita Williams leads the Tigers in kills with 313 and she is followed by Terakka Walker, who has tallied 236 kills. Britani Hathorn leads the TSU defense with 344 digs.
