COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Chris Walker, a former player and graduate
assistant coach at Lee University, has been selected as assistant
soccer coach at Tennessee Tech University. First-year head coach
Becky Fletcher announced the addition of Walker to her coaching
staff this week.
A native of Manchester, England, Walker was a four-year standout
player in the Lee soccer program. He spent the past two years as a
graduate assistant on the Lee coaching staff under head coach Henry
Moyo.
A four-year starter and captain during his junior and senior
seasons, the defender played in over 80 games during his four-year
career and was named all-conference (TranSouth and Southern States
Athletic Conference) three straight years. Overall, the Flames were
52-28-6 and made back-to-back trips to the NAIA National
tournament. He averaged nine points each season and scored a
career-high five goals during his sophomore year.
"Chris has an exceptional understanding of the game, and he will
bring a different perspective to our team," Fletcher said. "I am
confident that Chris will be an extremely valuable asset to the
team as he begins to impact every aspect of the program."
Walker is a graduate of Hesketh Fletcher High School in Atherton,
England, and spent two years at the Hampden Academy in Maine from
2000 to 2002 before enrolling at Lee. He received his bachelor's
degree in business administration in 2006, and recently added his
master's in education.
In addition to his experience as a coach at Lee, Walker has served
as the All-Pro Soccer Tour Director in Manchester since 2003. He
was an assistant soccer coach for Cleveland High School, and
directed the Cleveland Flames U15 Soccer Club team.
Walker helped Fletcher welcome the team back to campus Thursday.
Tech plays an exhibition match at Carson-Newman on Aug. 19, then
opens the regular season at Georgia State on Aug. 23.
