Williamson, Shepherd help Tech climb at OVC Championship

DICKSON, Tenn. -- Junior Amber Shepherd and freshman Megan Williamson improved their first-round scores by five and four strokes, respectively, to help the Tennessee Tech women's golf team move up a spot at the Ohio Valley Conference championships Tuesday. 

The Golden Eagles passed Belmont for sixth place at the GreyStone Golf Club after carding a team score of 314, scoring 14 strokes better than their first round. The tournament is set to conclude Tuesday, with the winner moving on to the NCAA Championships. 

Shepherd entered the clubhouse with Tech's best round of the day with a 76. Williamson and sophomore Madalyn Everts carded rounds of 77 and 78, respectively. Everts is currently in a tie for 14th overall and is six strokes off the lead. Williamson sits alone at 22nd and Shepherd is in a tie for 23rd.

Senior Katherine Bell also improved her score by two strokes and is in 36th while fellow senior Amanda Randolph is in a tie for 46th.

Eastern Kentucky leads the tournament with a team score of 608 while EKU's Kristen Dorsey and Morehead State's Katie Rice are tied for the lead at 149. 

Tech has tee times on Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. CDT. Everts, who leads the Golden Eagles, will tee off at 10:20.
