Women's golf team gets back into action Monday at APSU tourney

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- It's been nearly a month since the Tennessee Tech women's golf team competed in a tournament, so Monday morning can't come soon enough for coach Polk Brown and his players.

"We have been away from tournament action for the past few weeks, so the girls have been working very hard on aspects of their games," Brown said. "It will be great to see how the practice has paid off."

Tech joins nine other teams at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, a 36-hole event to be played at the Clarksville Country Club. The teams play 18 holes on Monday beginning at 8 a.m., and the final round of 18 on Tuesday on the 5,960-yard, par 72 layout. Tuesday's action starts at 8:30 a.m.

Teams in the field include Austin Peay, Belmont, IPFW, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Morehead State, Murray State, Southern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville and Tennessee Tech. In addition to the 50 players in the teams' lineups, the field will also include 17 playing as individuals.

"We're looking forward to getting to compete with teams such as Austin Peay for the first time this season," Brown said. "They have traditionally been a rival of ours, and it will be great to see how we stack up against them amongst all the other teams in the event as well."

The Golden Eagle lineup will incude senior Katherine Bell, redshirt freshman Maddi Everts, freshman Megan Williamson, senior Amanda Randolph and freshman Katya Hoffman. Sophomore Amber Shepherd (in photo) and freshman Allison Geer will compete as individuals.

Tennessee Tech won the inaugural tournament championship in 1999 with Golden Eagle Cherry Bevis capturing medalist honors. The Golden Eagles also claimed the team title in 2008 as Megan Bradford was medalist. TTU has also pruduced the individual medalist two other times, with Kylie Crouch in 2000 and Julie Smith in 2002.

Murray State has won the title the last two years.
