Brandy Stout takes team to Draper Valley
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Brandy Stout is familiar with the Draper
Valley Golf Club, having played there several times as a member of
the Tennessee Tech women's golf team.
Monday and Tuesday, she'll have a different perspective of the
layout. She returns as head coach of the Golden Eagles when they
open the 2008-09 season with the 54-hole tournament. The 12-team
field will play 36 holes Monday and the final 18 Tuesday.
Stout's first tournament as head coach will feature a veteran
lineup, with three seniors and two juniors returning returning to
compete as Tech's five-player team. One additional player will be
entered as an individual.
Senior Ashley Spangler, who had the team's low average last year on
her way to all-OVC honors, has qualified for the No. 1 position for
the Draper Valley Invitational. Spangler's final shot last year was
a hole-in-one on the 18th hole of the final day of the OVC
Championships.
Joining Spagler in Tech's lineup will be junior Diana Carson at No.
2, junior Megan Bradford at No. 3, senior Madison Denman at No. 4,
and senior Maegan Sullivan at No. 5.
Sophomore Carley Rhyne will play individually.
"We are very anxious and excited to be kicking off this season with
a very strong lineup," Stout said. "We have a wonderful schedule of
tournaments, and the girls have been working extremely hard. I
believe this year could be 'the year' for Tech to come home with
the OVC trophy.
"That's a long way off, and this is only the first step, but I
think everybody is ready to play, ready to have a great season,"
Stout said.
