COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Fans of Tennessee Tech women's basketball had the opportunity to see the 2009-10 team in action for the first time last Thursday in a 20-minute inter-squad scrimmage. On Thursday, fans will get their first glimpse of the Golden Eagles against another opponent as Tech takes on Tennessee Wesleyan in an exhibition game at the Eblen Center at 5:30 p.m.
Golden Eagle fans are encouraged to come early on Thursday as first-year head coach Sytia Messer will begin a new tradition. All youth in attendance will be invited down to the court five minutes prior to tip-off to form a tunnel that the TTU players will run through onto the Eblen Center court.
Fans will have plenty of new faces to welcome as seven Golden Eagles will wear the purple and gold for the first time. Tech also features four returnees from a season ago. The Golden Eagle roster -- consisting of six freshman and five sophomores -- is the youngest in NCAA Division I, and Tech is the only Division I team without a junior or senior on the roster.
The young Golden Eagles will use Thursday's game to build experience in preparation for the regular season opener, which will take place on November 13 at the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Tournament against Alabama.
The first 1,000 fans will receive free admission when the doors to Eblen Center open at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. In addition, each fan will receive a coupon good for one free popcorn and one free Pepsi product during the night's action.
First Tennessee Bank, the corporate sponsor of Tennessee Tech basketball, is also hosting its annual Poster Night, with free schedule posters available to fans.
Season tickets are on sale for the 2009-2010 season, and are available at the Athletics Ticket Office in Eblen Center or by calling (931) 372-3940. Tickets can also be purchased online at TTUsports.com.
