BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Micayla Rennick and Khemani Roberts have been named the adidas® OVC Female Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, as announced by the Ohio Valley Conference on Wednesday in its latest weekly report of the 2017-18 indoor season.
Along with D'Airrien Jackson's Track Athlete of the Week honor earlier this month, Tech now has three athlete of the week honors to its credit so far this season, which ties Eastern Kentucky for the conference lead.
Rennick appeared in just one event, the 3000m run, in last week's Fred Wilt Open at Purdue. She made it a memorable one, breaking her own school record with an OVC-leading time of 9:35.38. The senior now has the fastest time in the conference in three events – the 3000m, the mile and the 800m.
In Tech's first try at a pentathlon during the Fred Wilt Open, Roberts broke the school record with a total of 3,691 points. She also set new records in both the long and high jump, with a 5.57m mark in the long jump and a 1.72m mark in the high jump.
Roberts leads the OVC with her pentathlon score and ranks third in the high jump and eighth in the long jump.
She shares the Field Athlete of the Week honor with Eastern Illinois' Haleigh Knapp.
With the help of performances like Rennick's and Roberts', Tech has earned a No. 8 South Region ranking from the USTFCCCA, which marks the team's highest in program history.
