Samantha (Lovelady) Bates has taken on a new role for the Tennessee Tech softball team for 2012-13, moving from an assistant coaching position to volunteer assistant coach.
Samantha brings a great deal of experience to her position with two NCAA tournament appearances as a player under her belt and six season on Tory Acheson's staff as an assistant coach. As a Golden Eagle second baseman from 2002 through 2005, Samantha left her mark on the Tech career record books, finishing her career second in at-bats (766), sixth in runs scored (120), sixth in hits (213), sixth in total bases (283), sixth in doubles (34) and sixth in home runs (10).
With strong defensive and offensive numbers to her credit, Samantha has been a great source of experience for the current Golden Eagles.
Samantha received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Tennessee Tech in May of 2005, and completed her master’s degree in secondary education in 2009. Samantha married Billy Bates, a former TTU football player, on June 4, 2011.
