COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Three Eastern Illinois home runs and three Tennessee Tech errors cost the Golden Eagles the rubber game of their three-game series as the Panthers took the 6-4 decision.
The first five innings saw EIU score at least one run in each inning, which included three solo-home runs off the bats of Melise Brown, Morgan Biel and Amanda Bilina.
After 2.5 innings, EIU managed to build a 4-1 lead at the expense of junior Whitney Cummings, using five hits and two errors.
The bottom of the third saw the Golden Eagles put together a three-run rally, which included an RBI from Callie Schmidt, Lacie Coquerille and Kaliegh Gates to even the score at four.
The Panthers managed to put up a run in the fourth and the fifth innings, to regain the lead at 6-4. EIU's Stephanie Maday, who came in for starter Amber May with one out in the bottom of the third, kept the Golden Eagle offense in check during the final four innings as Tech managed just two base runners during that span to secure her 10th victory of the season.
Cummings, who pitched a seven-inning shutout Saturday, took the loss as she gave up six runs, five earned, to fall to 5-6 on the season. Sophomore Claudia Harke worked 2.1 innings, giving up just one walk while striking out two.
Tech (15-14, 6-7 OVC) hits the road for a game against East Tennessee State Tuesday, at 3 p.m.
