Six Golden Eagles to compete at USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Region

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- A total of six Tennessee Tech men’s tennis players will take part in the five-day USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional, in Knoxville, Tenn.

The event, slated to begin Thursday, will pit 128 singles players and 64 doubles teams against each other for the ultimate prize of heading to Madison Square Garden for the USTA/ITA National Championships.

Competing for Tech in the singles departments are senior Alex Chen and junior Syrym Abdukhailikov.  Abdukhailikov has paced the Golden Eagles in singles victories during the fall season with three, while Chen has tallied two singles victories.

Abdukhailikov and Chen will represent one of Tech’s two doubles teams, with sophomore Vasily Eremeev and senior Justin Kirstein representing the other. Together Abdukhailikov and Chen have posted a 3-1 doubles record.

Senior James Carwford and freshman Ezequiel Gils will form another doubles team, and they will compete in singles action as well.
