BlOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Tennessee Tech men's tennis squad will be one of eight teams competing this weekend in the Indiana University Invitational.
Alex Chen, Josh Girling, James Crawford, John Taylor and Joseph Proctor will join players from multiple schools including Butler, Cleveland State, Indiana and Xavier, among others. The tournament begins Friday morning with doubles play at 8:30 a.m followed by singles in the afternoon. Action will continue through the weekend.
The Golden Eagles had their first fall tournament last weekend at UNC Greensboro where they set off to a good start by getting some wins under their belt. Girling fell in the finals of Flight 2 singles last weekend against teammate Justin Kirstein, capturing wins over the first and fourth-seeded players in the tournament. He will attempt to repeat his success this weekend as he and Crawford represent Tech in Flight 2 singles.
Chen also had success last weekend after pulling out a 7-5 victory in the third set against UNC Asheville's Adrien Langeard. On Friday he will take on Chris Herron from Butler in Flight 2 singles.
Freshman Joseph Proctor competed in his first tournament for Tech last weekend where he gained two wins in the back draw of Flight A3. Proctor will be a contender in the third flight this weekend as well, as John Taylor represents Tech in the fourth flight.
The action kicks off Friday morning with the doubles pairs Girling/Crawford and Taylor/Proctor.
