TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Golden Eagle men's tennis team wrapped up the fall season over the weekend at the Alabama Crimson Tide Invitational. Three players from Tech competed in singles and doubles where they captured some first round wins.
Freshman John Taylor breezed through his first round match in the 5th flight with a straight set win over Troy's Tommy Cundy, 6-1, 6-4. He struggled the next round against a player from Memphis, falling 1-6, 4-6.
James Crawford represented Tech in the 6th flight where he came out strong, defeating Alex Metzner from Radford, only dropping one game in winning 6-0, 6-1. The next round he came up against Neil Travis from Indiana, who took the match from Crawford, 6-4, 6-1.
Another freshman for Tech, Joey Proctor fought in the third flight against two tough players. He fell short in both matches.
Proctor and Taylor also competed in the second flight of doubles where they played two close matches. In the first round they pulled out a tight 9-7 win over a tandem from West Alabama, and fell the second round in a tiebreaker. Tech had two match points against Boston College but was unable to convert it to a win, dropping a 9-8 contest.
