Golden Eagle tennis team faces three OVC tests on the road

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech Tennis Coach Kenny Doyle will take six players this weekend to compete against Austin Peay, Tennessee State and Murray State as they set their path for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in mid-April. The Golden Eagles are currently unbeaten in conference play at 2-0 with victories over Jacksonville State and Eastern Illinois.

The Golden Eagle tennis crew, posting a 4-6 overall record so far this season, aims to gain three more victories this weekend in conference matches. If history speaks for itself, Tech should have the road paved for itself the next few days, with impressive results over all three conference contenders throughout the years.

The first stop for the Golden Eagles is a 2 p.m. match-up Thursday at Austin Peay. Tech has won 22 out of the last 26 duals between the two schools and is seeking to add one more win to their current 12-match winning streak over the Governors.

Friday may be April Fool’s Day but at 2 p.m. it will be strictly business for the Golden Eagles, who have always taken care of business against the Tennessee State Tigers. Not only has Tech never lost a match to TSU in the 24 times they have played, the Golden Eagles have only dropped a remarkable two points against the Tigers.

A little further up the road but with a little more power under their belt, Tech will play its final match of the weekend against the Murray State Racers. That contest is slated for 10 a.m. Saturday morning. With an eight-match winning streak over the Racers and victories in 16 of the last 19 matches played against Murray State, Tech aims to head home three matches closer to the OVC Tournament.

Results for all three road matches will be posted on as soon as they become available.
