MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - The Tennessee Tech men's golf team made huge strides on the second day of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, shaving 26 strokes off its first round score to move into a tie for eighth place Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles carded a second-round final of 290, the fifth lowest score of the day, and seventh lowest of the entire tournament. The mark was just two strokes over par and gave the team a two-day total of 606.
For the second straight day, Bryce Kendrick posted the lowest score for the Golden Eagles, finishing at an even par 72. The sophomore moved up into a tie for 20th overall, finishing the day two with an overall score of 149.
Fellow sophomore Mitch Thomas matched his teammate on the day, carding a 72 to finish even on the day. His overall total of 152 ranks him third among the Golden Eagles over the first two days of the tournament, tying for 32nd overall after shooting an 80 on the first day of action.
Wiley veteran Lee Whitehead put together a fantastic second round, collecting four birdies on the day and finished with a 73 to tie for 28th overall. The junior owns a 151 overall, good for second on the team.
Knocking eight strokes off his frist round score was redshirt junior Mason Griffin, who finished the round with one over 73 to total 154 overall. Adam Cunningham also completed his second round eight strokes better than day one, totaling 78 for a 164 two-round score.
Tech will look to make more moves upward in its final round as the Golden Eagles will head into the third day of the OVC Championships on Sunday. Play will kick off at 8 a.m. CT in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
