Cassetty in second, Golden Eagles in fifth going into final round at Skyhawk Classic

Cassetty finishes first two rounds five-under par

BUCHANAN, Tenn. – Tyler Cassetty fired a four-under 68 in the second round to complement a one-under 71 in the first Monday to finish in a tie for second place at the Skyhawk Classic at Paris Landing State Park.

Cassetty finished five-under par with an aggregate score of 139 en route to a tie with Union University’s Brett Barry and one stroke off the six-under pace set by Murray State’s Patrick Newcomb. The strong rounds kept Cassetty’s positive momentum rolling from his performance at the MSU Invitational a week ago, in which he posted rounds of 67 and 69.

Behind Cassetty’s lead, Tennessee Tech finished the first two rounds of the three-round event in fifth-place out of 14 squads. The Golden Eagles posted a team score of 295-295=590 are 18 strokes out of first place, which is held down by Southern Illinois, which posted a 286-286=572.

Greg Kitts was the second-lowest Golden Eagle on Monday, shooting an even-par 72 in the second round to go with a first-round 74 and post a total score of 146, tying for 15th place overall out of the 80 golfer field.

Taylor Diegel was Tech’s third golfer, coming in with a score of 74-76=150, while Mason Griffin shot 77-79=156 and Travis Ramsey came in at 76-81=157. Lee Maxwell played as an individual and shot 77-73=150.

Behind Southern Illinois, Lipscomb sits in second place with a score of 299-285=584 while Jackson State is in third at 585, Murray State holds down fourth at 586 and Tech is in fifth at 590. The rest of the field consists of Tennessee-Martin (592), Union (593), Trevecca Nazarene (599), John A Logan CC (599), Bethel College (605), Tennessee-Martin B (606), Christian Brothers (610), Alabama State (615) and Bethel B (670).

The third and final round will be played Tuesday morning. Results will be posted on TTUSports.com as they become available.
