NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A large group from Tennessee Tech and
Cookeville was in the audience Friday when former Golden Eagle
golf coach and player Bobby Nichols was inducted into the Ohio
Valley Conference Hall of Fame at the 2011 Honors Luncheon
at DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Nashville.
The league handed out its annual awards, includng the induction of
Nichols and Ron English into the Hall of Fame. Bobby's brother,
Earl, gave the acceptance speech and was joined by a host of family
members, including brothers John and Glen.
Rudy Kalis, sports director for WSMV TV in Nashville, served as the
emcee for the event.
Awards for Male and Female Athlete of the Year, the Steve Hamilton
Sportsmanship Award, scholarship awards and All-Sports Trophies
were presented. THe induction of Nichols and English into the
OVC Hall of Fame brought the Hall's total membership to
69.
The following awards were given out at the luncheon:
Male Athlete of the Year: Kenneth Faried, Morehead
State (basketball)
Female Athlete of the Year: Kat Pagano, Eastern
Kentucky (cross country/track and field)
Steve Hamilton Sportsmanship Award: Abby O'Connor,
Eastern Kentucky (volleyball)
Commissioner's Cup: Eastern Illinois
Institutional Sportsmanship Award: Southeast
Missouri
