COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech junior linebacker Marcus Edwards has been named to the Consensus Draft Services Preseason FCS All-America Team, the organization announced this week.

Edwards, who was named to the College Football Performance Awards preseason watch list for linebackers earlier in the summer, was listed as honorable mention for the 2011 season

Edwards led the Ohio Valley Conference in quarterback sacks a year ago, seeing extensive action in all 11 games as a sophomore in 2010, including one start at Austin Peay. A native of Alabaster, Ala., he made 15 solo tackles and assisted on 14 to finish with 29 total tackles, including 9.0 tackles-for-loss for 49 yards to rank second on the team and 15th in the OVC. He led Tech and topped the OVC with 7.5 quarterback sacks for 46 yards, and was named the OVC and FCS National Defensive Player of the Week following his efforts against Eastern Illinois when he had 4.5 sacks.

Edwards and teammate DeShawn Harris received public commendation from the Cookeville and TTU Police Departments for helping to apprehend a theft suspect during the spring semester.

Edwards was one of six players from the Ohio Valley Conference included on the CDS list, including four from Murray State.

Named to the second-team were kick returner Jeremy Caldwell of Eastern Kentucky and punt returner Dontrell Johnson of Murray State. Honorable mention selections joining Edwards were quarterback Casey Brockman, receiver Arthur Brackett and runningback Mike Harris of Murray State, receiver Orlandus Harris of Eastern Kentucky, and defensive end Lamar Wallace of Tennessee State.

Fifth-year head coach Watson Brown and the Golden Eagles open the 2011 season on Sept. 3 at the University of Iowa. Season ticket information for Tech's five-game slate at Tucker Stadium is available by calling (931) 372-3940.
