COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- A 2009 graduate of Tennessee Tech and former Golden Eagle golfer, Carla Hazelwood has returned to her alma mater to take the position of assistant coach for the men's and women's golf teams.
Most recently, Hazelwood served as the graduate assistant coach at fellow OVC school, Austin Peay. She joins the Tech staff to support head coach Polk Brown
"I am very excited to have Carla back as an assistant for the golf teams," Brown said. "I think she will be an unbelievable asset, both on and off the golf course."
Hazelwood began her career at Tech in 2005 and was named Most Dedicated Player by legendary TTU coach Bobby Nichols. A team captain in 2009, she finished her playing career with two all-tournament honors (2006 North/South/Jacksonville Beach Golf Course and 2007 TSU Triangular/Greystone Golf Course)
"It feels great to be back at Tennessee Tech, and I am excited about helping coach Brown with both teams," Hazelwood said. "I hope to be able to contribute to the teams the things I learned as a player as well as a graduate assistant coach, and make a positive impact on this program."
Brown, in his second season at the helm, believes the experience Hazelwood gained at Austin Peay will be a valuable asset to his teams.
"I look forward to seeing what the future holds for our program with her being aboard," he added.
Hazelwood begins her position immediately to assist both the men's and women's teams with their spring seasons.
"I am grateful for coach Brown giving me the opportunity to be his assistant," she said. "And I look forward to the great things in store for TTU golf."
The Spring 2013 schedule kicks off on Feburary 23 when the men compete in the Augusta State Invitational. The women begin their season on March 3 at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate.
