Dylan Vazzano, a graduate of Syracuse University and native of Los Angeles, is in his third year on the Sports Information staff at Tennessee Tech University, joining the Golden Eagles in August, 2013, as a Sports Information Coordinator and Play-by-Play Broadcaster.
Vazzano, 27, is into his third year providing radio play-by-play for baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, and softball on Fox Sports 106.1 The Eagle, and has done football play-by-play for Tech’s game against Chattanooga on Nov. 15, 2014 in addition to his three seasons as sideline reporter on 98.5 KISS FM.
Along with the extensive radio work, which includes a daily department update segment, a weekly player interview segment, and weekly conference rundown segment during football season, Vazzano broadcasts the audio portion of webstreams of soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball games on the OVC Digital Network, which includes live postgame interviews of basketball players and coaches on the new video board in the Hooper Eblen Center.
He is also the primary media relations contact for the TTU soccer and tennis team after spending two years as the Golden Eagle softball contact, and works with every other Golden Eagle team, where his duties include website updates and stories, videos on YouTube, and producing content for several publications. He also serves as the voice-over talant for a variety of other Tech video productions, including Hall of Fame induction intros, recruiting day reports and segments for programs such as The Watson Brown Show.
Vazzano comes to Tech after spending two years as Sports Information Director and lead Play-By-Play Broadcaster at Menlo College, an NAIA school in the San Francisco Bay Area.
While at Menlo, Vazzano controlled all communications and media relations aspects for the department’s 14 sports, including developing and securing feature stories that appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, and Oakland Tribune, all firsts in Menlo Athletics. As a broadcaster, he provided play-by-play for football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball, men’s wrestling, and served as the “voice” of eight different regional and national tournaments.
Vazzano also spent five summers as lead Play-By-Play Broadcaster for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League, the top summer collegiate baseball league in the country. The past two summers he has been one of the voices of Cape League All-Star Game that airs on National Public Radio, spending the 2013 game as a color commentator before taking the reigns as play-by-play voice for the 2014 game. In addition, Vazzano has provided color commentary for the Cape’s “Sunday Night Baseball” on WEEI 96.3 FM, flagship station of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and New England Patriots. He also served as the first ever host of Hyannis’ postgame studio show, “Hawk Talk,” and throughout his time at Menlo and the Cape League, he has conducted over 150 on-air interviews with players and coaches.
Vazzano graduated Syracuse University in 2010, earning a degree in Writing and Rhetoric.
